"Well, I'm sure you know some of it already, but I'll try my best."
Aaron nods, mostly having been using that as verbal filler to work himself up. He takes a breath and draws himself up, focussing more on Jack as he starts.
"I was the first Paradigm agent to arrive on the scene when we heard the news; after me, Miranda Fischer arrived, as did an agent I don't know -" he'd not had a chance to ask for Hoodie Guy's name - "and Angel Black. Arman Madani was on the scene, but he wasn't there when we gathered so I don't know when he arrived for certain. We didn't discuss who was in charge of the mission, I just sort of took over since nobody else was there when I arrived."
Dad had taught him a few things about being assertive and authoritative. It's just that it usually doesn't come out to play unless it's an emergency, apparently. "I spoke to the officer who seemed to be in charge of the situation and he told me what we were dealing with - a second grade class held hostage, they claimed to have a bomb, I'm sure the news said all of that. When the other agents arrived, we discussed our options with the officer, and I came up with a plan of action. The police would distract the terrorists while I led the team in through a classroom window; we would then sneak into the main office, subdue any enemy metahumans monitoring the cameras in there, then locate the hostages, any bombs on premises, and get everybody out of there. Capturing the hostile metas was a second priority, we were only to engage after all the hostages were safe."
And there was when it all started to go wrong. His voice gets a little thicker, a little more bitter. "I should be blamed for failing to keep him in line, sir, but while I led the others to the classroom we were infiltrating through, Angel abandoned the plan almost immediately and remained with the police negotiators. I gather he was distracted by the terrorists calling. In response to police contact, the terrorists immediately executed one hostage - the class teacher, I'm afraid I don't know her name - and said if the mayor and governor weren't turned over to them within twenty minutes, everyone else would die. Angel immediately attacked and engaged them in combat; however, this metahuman has the ability to clone himself when subjected to blunt force, and thus his attacks were only making more enemies to deal with. I am of the opinion his actions made the mission significantly more difficult and subjected the children held hostage to unacceptable danger, but as team leader it was my responsibility to keep him on task; it was my failure, sir. I also gather this is when Arman arrived on the scene; when we made contact with him, he was helping Angel fight out front, and they were heading to the classroom from the opposite direction we were."
If Jack didn't interject, Aaron would continue with his report. "Miranda, the unknown agent and myself located the metahuman who was the source of all the clones, in the main office, but we heard the gunfire out front and considered the delay subduing him would cause an unacceptable risk to the remaining hostages; for all we knew, the terrorists would set off the bomb immediately when they realised they were under attack, or just shoot all the children."
The very thought makes Aaron balk as if he's about to be sick! However, he powers through. "We slipped past the office undetected, and arrived at the classroom, where we were met by Angel and Arman - and eight clones of that metahuman I mentioned. Sixteen, after Arman threw a locker at them. I instructed Arman to hold them off, as the unknown agent and I looked into the room and prepared to breach it - I saw a woman and a man, both masked, inside, and the children bound. The woman turned out to be the bomb, sir; she had a metahuman ability that appeared to involve generating and storing kinetic energy, and then releasing it in a massive explosive blast with herself as the epicentre. I suspected this might be the case at the time, but didn't know for sure until it was too late; I blinded the woman and man with clouds of darkness, and the unknown agent teleported inside and opened the door for us to make entry, while I tasked Arman with remaining by the door and holding off anybody who attempted to force their way in. It was my thought that he would know I meant to only stop the clones, sir."
Aaron had read up a little on that big, confusing blur after the enemy metas left, and... well, he hadn't been happy with himself. They would have to smooth things over with the CPD somehow. "I engaged the two metahumans in combat while telling everybody else to focus on freeing the children; the unknown agent teleported the masked woman into a wall, and then turned to using his power to transport all the children outside the building. Meanwhile, the masked man grew to gigantic size and attempted to crush us; I used clouds of darkness and solidified shadows to keep him blind, so he couldn't hit anybody. This meant I wasn't aware that the woman was still in fighting condition, so when Miranda went to secure the last group of children..."
It catches in his throat! He forces it down, but is quiet for several long moments. "I felt the heat building up and the blast about to come but it all happened too quickly for me to do much about anything. Miranda forced as many of the children as she could away from the blast so she would take its force, and instead of shielding myself or keeping the giant blind I turned my powers to protecting all the children; it happened too fast for me to even consider shielding Miranda. As a result, all the children were protected, but Agent Miranda Fischer was killed in action."
His report isn't done, but he needs a minute. He'd been to Dr. Gavyns, but it's still hard to say.
He looks at his feet. "I was severely wounded, so what happened after that is a bit of a blur to me. I remember getting up, instructing my fellow agents to make sure the children were all out safely and telling them I'd hold off the terrorists. I attacked the masked woman -" not to mention told her 'I will end you,' but it slips Aaron's mind to report that - "but rather than engage me, the two metahumans elected to flee. The giant caught her after I sent her flying with an attack, and ran away. The last thing I remember clearly, before getting rushed to the infirmary here, was comming the police outside and telling them we needed casevac, and people following the giant to see where he was going. I'm sorry, sir, but I wasn't in any condition to pursue them. I remember SWAT coming in, me getting stretchered out, and that's about where things turn into a blur."

"I didn't see any insignia, sir, but I'm never going to forget what those animals look like."
The room gets much darker with the spike in Aaron's temper! Then, he realises the fact and the darkness is gone, and he looks apologetic.
"Just like the person setting the fire at that hospital, they all wore masks. We had encountered the man in the biker helmet before, and he was wearing the same equipment despite not being on a motorcycle. It's circumstantial evidence but I think it's reasonable to believe they are all part of some organised group."
He had talked to the counsellor after all. "I feel callous for saying this, sir, because somewhere out there the Fischers are about to find out they just lost their little girl, but I consider it a win that the children all got out of there okay and we drove off the bad guys. We signed up for this, not them."

"I didn't join Paradigm for fame and praise, I did it to help innocent people. The whole thing was pretty clear cut; I just wish I'd been faster, because if I was powerful enough to shield all those kids, I probably could've saved her too."
He tries to rein himself in, the kicking himself around was more for the counsellor's office, or his own head. "Do you know if any arrangements are being made? I wasn't in any condition to make sure you got her badge..."

"Filled with a variety of dangerous creatures, including ones living in the water and in the sand. It took a lot out of me to survive there both times I visited, and if I had the choice, I'd never return voluntarily."
"Both times, it was because I killed what was trying to kill me."
Jack says simply.
"You can't take giant creatures captive, not without risking your life, neither can you reason with robots eager to put an end to all life. I fought them with everything I had, along with the people who were with me."
He points at him.
"That's another thing. I was never alone, either."
