Evie wandered the grounds, simply enjoying her freedom. The campus was much larger than the one in New York, and she enjoyed watching people interact. She had learned so much, just from watching.
Part of her wondered if Kenny or Mike would find her, and another part hoped she'd meet someone new. In actuality, it didn't matter much to her.
She stretched her arms into the air and let out a noise of contentment. Unlike others, who were bundled against the crisp air, she only wore a thin jacket. The cold was exhilarating.
When/if she turned around, Ken would be facing her, scratching his head. He grumbled a little before holding out a very small grouping of 3-5 pretty flowers, which he would give to her while looking away a little embarrassed.
She looked over her shoulder and caught sight of Kenny, and a smile immediately blossomed across her face. She turned around to face him completely just as he offered her the flowers.
Evie's eyes flew open and a brilliant smile lit her face. Flowers? It wasn't a bouquet by any standard, but it was beautiful. She took them gingerly from his hands.
"Oh, Kenny," she said softly. "You didn't have to!"
"Shit- I- that process was way backwards. I didn't mean to like, take the the choice from you. You gotta know if you aren't interested I won't hate you. We can still be friends one hundred percent if you got eyes for another dude."
To which Ken would not like to know the name, less he be forced to emasculate him.
Her laughter was open and kind. Eyes for someone else? She stepped a bit closer to him, having to raise up to her tippy toes to plant a soft, warm kiss upon his lips.
It was gentle, innocent, and a few moments longer than necessary.
"I like you, Kenny," she whispered to him. "But you don't seem... like the 'my girl' type."
It didn't seem to bother her much as she fell back onto her feet, not bothering to take a step back. She was surprised that he had called her that so casually. Part of her imagined him as a womanizer.
Ken kissed her back, taking in a deep breath through his nose before she settled down. When she said the next sentence, his brow furrowed. He would stare for several seconds. Then, he brought his fingers up to his lips and touching them lightly.
"You never did seem like the mommas boy type, Little Kenny."
His father spoke from the other side of the glass, protected by the shield of police. Ken had tears in his eyes, his mother having only been dead a few short weeks. He asked his father why...and that was the response he got.
Kenny jumped forward, punching clean through the glass and grabbing his now laughing fathers shirt, jerking on him and slamming his face into the glass.
"I'm going to fucking kill you, I swear to God...."
BK Would watch Evie a moment.
"Right."
He looked down at the ground as his gaze slid out of focus.
She watched the look across his face change and her heart plummeted. Had she said something wrong? Stepping closer to him, she tried to get his attention, furrowing her brows and frowning.
It was so rare for Evelyn to frown.
"Kenny?" She said at last, reaching one hand up to rest it on his cheek. "Kenny, are you okay?"
"Yeah, I'm fine. Listen- I don't...I do get around. I'm not someone who...picks a single girl but I thought, with you....Sorry about the "your girl" thing. It won't happen again."
He would reach up and gently take her hand, moving it away from his face. He looked down at the flowers.
"Anyway, I just wanted to see you. I should probably get going to class."
The change was sudden. She bit back her response, feeling her body quiver for a moment in rejection. How had he gone from calling her his girl to saying, basically, that he wanted to play the field?
She stepped back slowly, but shook her head. "No, don't go," she said, her voice almost a plead. "Please?"
He would let out a deep breath. He always got in his own way- looking for a reason to fuck up a good thing. The doctor....He chewed his lip. Right. Just tell her.
"Look. Maybe we don't know each other well enough, so I'll try and fill you in. I like girls. I've been with enough. But i've never been with them like I'm interested in being with you. Sex isn't prioritized with you. I want to know you and spent time with you and shit. I'd like to be able to say you're my girl- if not now, then when you're ready. Clearly, you aren't. Or perhaps you have some misgivings about me, I don't know."
He ran a hand through his hair.
"Anyway. You saying I'm not that type confuses me. I mean, if that's the case are we just friends who occasionally kiss? I mean not that it ain't awesome..."
At least he was talking to her. She listened in silence, cradling the flowers against her face, taking in their scent as she tried to calm herself down. She didn't judge him for being with girls before her, but...
"It was meant to be teasing," she said softly, looking away. So she HAD upset him. Giving a shake of her head, she tried to act as if she wasn't bothered by what he was saying.
She really didn't do a good job of it.
"I haven't ever been anybody's girl," she tried to explain. "I wouldn't know if I was ready or not. And I'm not... the kind to fool around. When I have a relationship, I want that... to be it... I don't want to play games or anything."
If the flowers had been bigger, she would have hidden behind them. "I'd just bore you, anyways."
He would step forward and take her hips in his hands, watching her.
"Tell you what. Go out with me. I'll never pressure you for a physical relationship- I'll leave it all up to you. And during that time....I won't be with any other women. If it comes to a point where you don't like it, break it off and we'll go out separate ways. If you don't like that idea...tell me what you'd need as proof that I can do it."
When he held her, she finally looked up at him, her eyes a glittering blue. She didn't really know WHAT to say. He had just admitted to being a bit of a player, and there was a fear in her heart that this might all just be a game.
And she knew it would never be a game to her.
Still, she offered a very slight nod and leaned against him. He was warm, strong... he felt like safety.
"Okay," she agreed. "We'll try it. As long as you don't go after any other girls."
