With the list in one hand, she left Abby's office. Yet, instead of going outside or to her little apartment home (how cute), she walked down the hall to Jack's office. Obviously, something was up.
It took her decent effort to knock on his door, but at least she offered him the courtesy. And she even waited for an answer.
Vee opened the door and stood there for a moment, arms crossed as she looked over the Director and gained everything she could from that and that alone.
"And I thought you looked over all the transfer requests, Jack," she said, walking into the room with an easy sort of confidence. There was no venom in her tone, but there was concern.
"I figured I'd stick around. I honestly came to see how you all were, but it looks like you could use my help."
She walks over to him and her eyes flash with worry. He didn't know she was coming? That was bad.
"Figured I could help whip the new generation into shape. And, looking at the lot of you," she motioned towards him, across the desk from her, and then again towards Abby's door, "you could use some help. I could use some entertainment. Seeks like a good trade off, doesn't it?"
"And you've changed?" she asked in mock surprise. "You still seem to jump the gun, as far as I can see."
Her words were pointed, but most things she dealt with were. She leaned forward and rested her hands on the desk, tapping the wood just in front of his name plate.
"Because when I transferred, I sent my paperwork in to Director Gavyns. Because you are sitting across the desk from me looking like the sandman himself is about to take you away, but you're still working. Oh, and because you've got another little one on the way. There's that, too."
She moved her hand away from the name plate, resting her elbows on the desk and her chin on her hands.
"Someone doesn't have to be you, Jack," she pointed out, but left the family life alone. "You're wearing yourself thin. More than thin."
She started frowning. Whatever it was that Dain had done, he should know she'd be able to find out. Intelligence expert and all that.
"If something happened with Dain and you've got a baby on the way and god knows what else going on with you, you should find somebody to help and at least pay attention to the paperwork. You can get an assistant or something."
"Well, I can help out with that." She gave a shrug, not switching position. "I can look through some people. Find you a good assistant. I need to familiarize myself with everybody here, anyways, and Abby's going to need a temporary replacement."
Vee sighed softly. They really were a mess, weren't they?
"You should, Jack. Take time off. Both of you should!"
At least he was smiling again.
"You guys have a whole buttload of kids, and apparently their grandma is in town. I don't know about you, but Grandma visiting always meant great things. Like family vacations." Hint hint.
A brow cocked. Weren't they just talking about getting an assistant? Work he couldn't pass off? She leaned back, then, and crossed one leg over the other.
