"Who do I need to talk to for entry? Supervisor or something? I'm supposed to check the systems." He snorts, doing his best dork impression, coupled with poor posture and nasally tone.
Aaron thinks the same and steps away from the cell, looking over his shoulder to see what the guards are doing. If he did anything, their cover would be blown in the middle of Imperial territory and they'd be surrounded by an army. But everything about him says to get in the way, to tell them they'll have to go through him if they want to do anything to that kid. If that's what they're planning to do.
Even if their cover isn't blown, though, wouldn't they have to leave this kid to suffer? What kind of hero does that?
For now, he watches, trying to look alert and attentive - which he is - but not hostile or like he's planning anything.
Silas intended more, but the crying is garnering his attention too.
"Say, are you guys keeping up with the fight?" He pulls up the feed of Kieran and Donelly, checking their progress and hoping to stall the guards from moving over to the others. God forbid they have enough sense to cut their losses before their cover is blown...
The metallic soldier admits, before looking at the battle on Silas' feed! It looks like Kieran and Donnelly are parrying every single strike thrown at each other, though Donnelly is breathing harder.
The guards move to whip open the cell, and one stands outside the cell while the other storms in and strikes the kid with the butt of his rifle, knocking the child into a prone position. He then starts kicking, over and over.
He wants to jump at those two guards and beat them into paste with his shadows, but that would be suicide when they're still in here. Still, to just stand here and do nothing?
No. No way in hell. As subtly as he can, he taps Eliott on the arm to get her attention and whispers to her.
"I need you to back me up on this, okay?"
Please. Because he turns away from her and looks to the guard in front, the icy expression coming naturally to him when he's this angry.
"Boss lady wants to know if that's really necessary."
The guard's eyes widen, and the moment Eliott speaks, he ends up smiling at Aaron, before leveling his rifle at him and firing a yellow beam straight at his chest!
"Donnelly's never lost in fourteen years."
The metal soldier seems to have trouble keeping his focus on the fight, with the second one breaking out downstairs!
He could move out of the way. He could have jumped on the guy the second he started to pick up his rifle, or used his powers to fling him across the room. Pick him and his buddy up with tendrils and smack 'em against a wall until they go limp. That would blow the whole thing though, put all three of them in the centre of a hornets' nest, and if him being a target would save that kid... fine.
Aaron tries to fling himself to the floor just as the beam hits, to try minimising the impact, and starts rolling around and shrieking! Not all of that is fake, as his nerves promptly begin to feel like they've all caught fire at once.
He's heard so many stories about these guns, but they don't quite match up to one actually hitting you. Actual tears start rolling down his face, and he gasps for breath.
Aaron wails and thrashes in pain, half of the hysterics being real, and disguises his attempt to roll out of the way of at least most of the beam as part of the convulsions!
He's okay making himself a target to distract them from that kid. He's not okay letting himself get killed.
Eliott winces, but plays it off like it's from the flash of the beam.
"He should think twice before doing that again." Eliott says before turning away and moving to a new cell. Her eyes would momentarily dart towards Silas, curious if he was getting anything but with those guards there it didn't seem like it.
She'd casually look into a new cell, unsure how long the other two still wanted to be here.
Eliott got a pretty good idea of what this place is like already.
Being hit by the entire beam, needless to say, made him start shrieking entirely for real, and eventually he just lay there, gasping.
They'd stopped bothering that kid for now. Good. He can live with that. A few long, shuddering breaths later, and he tries to get to his feet, trying to hide the now very real agony.
They know enough. The sooner they're out of this place, the better.
