He'd wanted to skip it, but skipping it would mean thinking, would mean dwelling, would mean being even less sure what the hell he was doing, would mean the growing pit in his stomach getting even bigger. Not to mention, you know, him failing to keep up on his strength training. That felt less important, somehow. He'd entered the gym and the room had blurred around him, his body on autopilot. Warm up, five sets of five squats, new max weight. Recover. Five of five bench presses. Don't think about cold eyes and voices full of anger, resentment. About how much sense that made now, all of it. About single-handedly fucking up a mission, about being the only one who came home whole, about what incredible selfishness that was. About the horror that had been going on in that place until they got there, the horror that went on when they got there. Further back, about that child in Belarus. About how much of a piece of shit excuse for an agent you are. About how you aren't a hero. Just... don't think, in general. Breathe in, breathe out, let the world turn to the burn of muscle and the heft of the weights and the hissing breaths of exertion. Recover. Hydrate. Barbell rows next. Set up. New max. Always go a bit heavier than last time, to keep getting stronger. One. Two. Three. Four. Five. Recover. Next set. One. Two. Three... Set four. Done. Break, thirty seconds. Hydrate a little. He'd not even noticed how he sort of neglected his water bottle. What was meant to be a couple sips ended up draining the whole thing before he broke away in annoyance. That meant the thirty seconds passed soon, too. He caught a glimpse of Murdoch on his way back to the barbell, but brushed it off for the moment. Lots of people train. Everyone should train. "Okay. One more," he sighed to himself, getting back into position and lifting the bar to his chest. The weight felt good. Made him feel competent. That was the downside to the routine. Sometimes you were in the mood for more, but five reps was five reps. Straightening up, he sighed and stretched a little. Now, just time to put everything back and wipe it down. Tempting to just leave it on the floor, but no. He could at least exercise some basic respect. He started taking weights off the bar and putting them back where they belonged, shadowy arms helping make the work faster. His path took him over to that general area to put weights back, however, so he sort of shifted his position to make sure Murdoch had ample room to do his exercises. "Oops. 'Scuse me." He was a lot stronger than he looked, and not that much smaller than Murdoch. But maybe it was more that Murdoch caught him at a time he wasn't in the mood for random nitpicking. Casually, and much unlike his usual self-consciousness, he rolled up a sleeve to show an arm far more muscular than it had looked while covered. Not like, Hulk Hogan biceps, but obviously powerful musculature was present. "I do all right. Cardio's important too, though." Confession time, Aaron hated running. His cardio was in his martial arts classes, for the most part. Really, he hit the weights more for functional strength than appearance. Just because he really wasn't sure what else to say to that. It was his dad's genes, mostly; they leant towards the slender-but-strong build. More Bruce Lee than Bob Sapp. Not to mention he just kind of felt uncomfortable discussing looks and physiques at random like that. Still, he would roll his sleeve back down and give Murdoch a nod. You know about the mission." He did mind Murdoch asking, just a tiny bit. A lot of the things on his mind had almost literally just happened. Plus, wasn't it a bit odd they kept running into each other, over the past couple days? On the other hand, he couldn't bring himself to just tell Murdoch to take a hike.
