Nate walks up to the desk, doing his best to lean on his crutch as he reaches across to shake Jack's hand. If Jack would let him, he'd shake the directors hand then look toward a seat. "Uh may I? Not tryin' to be disrespectful." His warm smile remained on his face, soft brown eyes watching the Director cautiously, unsure.
Nate's uneasy grin became almost sheepish. "I sort of arrived here twelve or so hours ago. The nice secretary lady told me to head to the tutorial and talk to the Instructor there. So I went, it was a class or something. That guy's really angry, but I don't think it's really angry."He shook his head not really better able to explain his reasoning any more clearly.
"Anyway, I took his test, and he gave me a B+, cool right? Well, I didn't know where to go, and I asked him to help me out. He sent me a pod..." He struggled with the new term for what he thought was essentially a dormitory. "Well, I met this cool girl there, she helped me out, and I went to talk to Instructor Amtrum again, and wow." He scratched his head, a rosy blush coming over his pale cheeks. "He sucker punched me, but I think that was sort of his thing? I don't know, anyway, he had me fight him, and I've never been in a fight in my life. He tore me up, kicked the crap outa me dude."
He scrunched his face up a bit trying to find the right way to explain himself. "I don't think he was actually trying to kill me, maybe it's a Paradigm thing..." He shrugged again. "But I came here because I was told I could practice here, I guess I'm lost at... Everything?" He didn't have a better way to describe it than that.
"Oh and your cook robot dudes, make the BEST deep dish Pizza EVER." He kept grinning, his brown eyes alight with joy.
"Well, for the last bit, yes. Afano is one of the greatest robot cooks I've ever met."
Jack grins.
"But as for Mathew, you'll find he's really... okay, he is that bad. At least, until he gets to know you. Then he's pretty decent. But he's good at helping people understand their powers and their limitations."
Nate nodded thoughtfully. "What is it I'm supposed to be doing here? I mean I'm lost, all I can do is misdirect, confuse and deceive. I'm not like Instructor... Er Mathew."
"Most often, a few moments of confusion can be all it takes to win a battle."
Jack shrugs a little.
"But that's something you won't run into until you go in the field. Normally, you'd have all sorts of training exercises and easier assignments to deal with as you learn your powers, but unfortunately, we're in a bit of a crisis here."
Nate nodded and smiled. "I'm not afraid really. I get to be the Merlin to their Arthur, but I'm not sure. The world needs magic and hope again. I just need to learn what I have to do here to do that." He laughed a bit. "I'm just hoping I'm not gonna screw this up you know?" He asked, trying hard to sound confident. After the day he'd had, confidence wasn't a trait he was feeling comfortable with.
Nate smiled at him and nodded a bit. "What should I do then boss?" He asked relaxing visibly. "How am I supposed to help you all out?" He asked with genuine concern. He knew only the smallest bits and pieces of information on what Paradigm actually was.
"As it stands, I'd say work on using your power properly, and being imaginative with it. Meet with the other agents and get to know them. That sort of stuff."
Nate nodded and sighed. "I'll do my best around here. I'm sure I can figure most anything out. If Instructor Amtrum needs help with something in my field, let him know I'll help him out. Same with anyone else. I think it would be better coming from you than from me you know?" He said with a kind grin as he struggled to his feet. "Sorry for the interruption, I'll get out of your hair."
Jack happily lets her sit there, before sitting on the desk himself.
"I tried to fix relationship problems for one of the students. They ended up breaking up and one of them hit the other while still in this office. It was... uh... messy."
