"Diving right in, huh?" He hesitates to continue considering history.
"Chris quit being an agent. He owns a loft downtown, and paints. It's not glamorous or anything, but he's making a living out of it. He's talented. I think. I don't personally understand art that well, but people seem to like what he does. "
She's genuinely happy for Chris, but then there's the awkward subject in the room... or call.
"About that... it's why I called. If my kids are joining, they'll have to have their birth certificates copied I imagine. I need you to block out their father."
"Don't worry about it. We're team members after all. Or we were anyway. I don't forget things like that. Prepare for an earful if I don't like what I see, though."
A short time later, John returns! Aaliyah can hear shuffling around as he sits back down and grabs the phone.
"Sorry about that, I have them right here." He starts flipping through them both, mumbling to himself as he skims a few pages of their information!
He pulls out both of their certificates at the same time so he can black out whomever the father is. He would be lying if he said he wasn't curious all these years. He was generally pretty nosy!
But that was something he didn't need to or want to know, and he realized this as soon as he glanced at the fathers name. Too late.
"Are you kidding me???" He said in a hushed tone. "Is this a joke? You're going to give me a fucking heart attack!"
John's preoccupied with his head resting on his free hand.
"I do. But considering things, why keep it a secret at this point? You should at least tell David. Shit Aaliyah, you should've told him from the beginning."
"I'm not going to destroy someone else's reputation to appease him. As selfish as that might sound, but you're right. David did... does deserve to know but I couldn't risk him flying off in a rage to tell everyone."
