Murdoch's out on the campus grounds again. This time he's movig around a chess board, back and forth on the opposing sides. He has a book in his hand of chess strategies that he's reading as he makes moves for both teams!
Fi had become accustomed to the layout of the Academy by now. She liked the courtyard. It was open. It was free. It spoke frankly. The walls whispered. She was drawn by the clash of swords, the sound of horses, and the sense of victory. Her eyes narrowed and head tilted as she watched Murdoch move to both sides of the chess board. A battle was being fought.
Murdoch's too engrossed in his game to notice anyone watching him. He hand flocks through a few pages of his book before he moves back to placing pieces on the board!
She creeps closer on tip toes. The war was waging. A battle between light and darkness. She thought she could almost hear the clockwork sound of strategists thinking and scheming. She needed a better vantage point. The battle was too chaotic to see from ground level. So she'd hop onto one of the chair's next to the table and would perch on it. Staring at the board.
Murdoch goes to make his next move, his hand outreached, but he stops, as he catches Fiona in the corner of his eye! He glances over to her, and back to the board with a smile.
"Hey, I didn't know I'd have an audience, not that I mind."
Murdoch takes the moment of silence to get back into the game. It's easy to remember where he left off, but it's thinking about future moves that's slowing him down. He moved a piece on the black side, and switched to move white, countering. Looking at the board, it would seem like white had a slight lead!
"Ah geez, it's not that bad." He goes to pat her on the shoulder.
"You're metaphors pretty accurate, though. I try and keep everything 'filed' away, otherwise I can't concentrate at all. It's like getting lost up there sometimes."
As a child Murdoch would involuntarily spend much of his time reliving past experiences.
"Please don't cry. I'm really not good with that sort of thing."
