"I was out because while suspended I'm not grounded to the Academy."
Obviously.
"There was some weird flash of light in the cemetery and I guess a few other agents were in the area. We all checked it out on our own. There was this guy... He commented on the type of soul I have."
He looked down, frowning. That part still disturbed him. He didn't know what to make of that. Or what it meant.
"Two of us got really injured. That Mark guy almost died, and Rebecca got stabbed. We were probably all going to die and I."
He ran his right hand over his face to buy him a moment to compose himself.
"I opened a portal and Mark and Eliott knocked him in before I sealed it up. I tried to call in back up but by the time they got there it was already done. I think if they had been any later Mark would have died..."
"Because I don't think I can get that guy back out of the portal. Because I was thinking maybe I wasn't cut out for this."
He took a deep breath. This next bit was going to be almost painful.
"But I don't want to quit. And I think keeping me off the field is a mistake. If you feel the need to punish me, then lets get it over with. But it's clear to me that keeping me suspended isn't going to stop me from being out there doing what I'm supposed to do. What I need training for. And I want your help."
The last part made him wince. But he managed to get it out.
If you didn't even know if you killed a guy, left them trapped who knows where, or what have you.
"And I guess. I'd rather take my lashes and get them over with. Because the longer I'm forced to sit on my thumbs the further behind I'm going to be with my peers, and the bigger liability I'll be when I'm allowed back out there."
And if anyone really had to die he didn't want it to be his friends.
