"I mean, push comes to shove this isn't about personal glory, right? I'm not going to endanger a mission, or innocent people, just to be the one who did it. But if the chance comes up, I'm taking it."
He pauses, mulling over how contradictory that sounded. "I guess I don't know? Ha, that didn't make much sense. But like, I'd be okay with someone stopping her, and soon - she needs to spend the rest of her days rotting in the Vault. I'd just really like to be the one to go 'You are under arrest'."
"I suppose it's one of those 'wait and see' things. If it ever does come down to her being captured without you, and you feel in any way uncomfortable, do come see me."
"Will do. But really, as long as people are safe, you know?"
Because this isn't a competition. "I'll help stop these people from hurting anybody else. It's not about my own personal goals, or whose name goes on the headline; that's what I try to keep in mind."
He'd already had his fill of reporters from people covering the school story. For a while, at least.
"Haha, not necessarily. People who are only here to look good usually have just as much drive. Sure it's a selfish one, but that doesn't change the fact they're doing good."
"I just don't like the guy; I know it's silly, and you make a good point, but people shouldn't be here just for themselves. Paradigm's something bigger than any one person, or we'd all just be vigilante superheroes doing our own thing."
That's how he sees it, anyway. And he knows vigilante superheroes are a thing, no judgements there he supposes, but still.
"Yeah, long as they're actually doing good I guess."
He remembers making a complete jackass of himself because he assumed Adam was the kind of guy to sabotage the sparring matches. "Guess I just don't like arrogant people. Who the hell is someone like Adam to treat people like they're lesser than him because of something as stupid as who they were born to, or whether they have a power? Nobody can help that."
Well, people can go find a sentient power and merge with it, but still.
"No, they make me want to bust his nose and show him he's not as good as he thinks he is. I guess it bugs me because I could've ended up like that if I were raised differently."
"We're not talking about shooting him or anything in here, more like, you know, beating him in a fight."
But that didn't answer her actual question. "Something about the guy just irritates me, any time I'm around him he gets under my skin. Like I said before, I think he reminds me of how I could've turned out."
"Well, people who act like he does just kind of piss me off in general, sorry for my language."
But on to a more helpful answer. "As to him representing something... yeah. If Mom and Dad raised me a little differently, I'd be like him. Arrogant, thinking I was the only thing that mattered, treating everybody as lesser for something they couldn't help and I hadn't done one thing to earn. Rich, important families, both legacy kids for what our parents do. I know where he's coming from and that makes me want to give him the lesson in humility he obviously never got."
But then, not everybody got to grow up being trained by metas as powerful as his parents. That'd make anybody a bit humble.
