Best past of being released was real food. Mike had just loaded up a tray with breakfast food and plopped down at an empty table. Eggs, bacon, sausage, and French toast. It was gonna be a good day.
It was weird not being home so close to the holidays. Maybe that was one of the reasons Savaak had sought out the cafeteria rather than hang out in the pod for breakfast. It was also worth seeing who was around, whether familiar faces or new.
Picking out an apple and a slice of french toast, she did the 'eenie-meenie' game in her head and picked a table that was almost empty. Whoever the guy was, he had some serious eyebrows and a thing for meat.
"Hey there, mind if I join you?" Even in the morning, there's that smile. It's even worse since she's actually a morning person.
"Thanks." So he wasn't as grumpy as his eyebrows made him seem. Paradigm was just full of surprise. She takes a seat across from him, not at all bothered by the fact that he seems to find the situation odd.
"I'm Savaak, by the way." No handshakes; she was raised not to pass anything over someone else's plate.
"Mhmm." She takes a sip of water before continuing. "Pretty sure that's how it'll always be, but I'm glad it hasn't turned you off of here yet." Also a good sign for her.
"Ah, that kind of bumfuck nowhere. I guess it does seem odd then, doesn't it? My parents are both metas, though we're not sure about my younger brother yet. That and you can usually find groups of metas with a bit of work where I'm from. A lot of white picket fences that are fond of happy things and shiny powers." Literally, in her case.
"So far." She nods. "I've not run into anyone I haven't liked yet on some level, and my podmates are both really cool. I think I lucked out in that department.
"It's...nice so far." Meaning she hasn't had enough experiences at Paradigm to give her a solid opinion of it yet.
"Well, I can see where his enthusiasm is if he's in it for the speed or the cars, but you literally just run laps without changing anything. Two hundred of them!" She waves a hand in the air with a dismissive air.
"If someone gives me a car and racing, I better be able to take it on a joyride."
"Honestly, I'd rather do more than just race. Or use a car," she admits, but switches the focus back to Mike since he's talking about himself a little bit!
"So you're a contact-sports man, I take it?" She seems interested.
"That's unfortunate. They probably missed out on a great player." She flashes him a smile. "But you've probably found a few people here who play, right?" She can't imagine Mike's the only baseball person here.
"Probably more of a challenge without powers, especially with what powers they might have." A nod of understanding. "More of your own accomplishment." She pauses for a moment, considering.
"Not to mention, it's nice to just run amok without our powers being involved all the time." It's a part of everyday life; she doesn't try to think too often on having a power makes a person stand out. Most the time, you don't ask for it, it's just a part of you.
