Shoulder is no longer in his stomach, seeing as he stepped back. She's able to spin a leg into his, but his fist already connects with her head right behind the ear, blindsiding her as she spins away from him!
She rolls over and forces herself to balance on two spread feet and her hand between them, her body lowered almost completely to the ground. That damn ringing made her head hurt.
"You KNOW me. You KNOW that I'm capable. So what is the point of all this? Why the hell do we have to knock each other out? What does it prove?"
Of course, that didn't mean he hadn't issued the challenge. Sliding back up slightly, she began to approach him, carefully, watching his every movement.
If he didn't call it, she would aim an uppercut, hand open, for his nose.
She threw her arm up to block his arm, tossing her weight backwards to stare at Matt again. If he came at her, she would just keep moving away, keeping away from his throws.
He dropped her to the ground and she let him, raising herself to her elbows and looking at him.
"Matt," Venus said softly, lifting her chin towards him. "I..." She what? She was sorry? She knew that wouldn't do any good, here.
Sighing, she threw herself to the side, rolling until she was out of range and could gather her feet back under her. Unlike Matt, her bruises were going to last, and she knew it, but...
"If you want to punish me, fine. But not here. Not right now. You're supposed to be here to make sure I'm field ready, and I've proven I am. If you want to punish me, then let me get settled, and we can do this again."
And she would take it, if that's what he felt he needed to do.
She stands up to face him, spreading her arms and showing him her palms, flat, open, and empty. He should know her well enough to know that she was armed to the teeth, so if she wanted to, she could have another knife in her hand and the fight could continue.
"Things have changed, Matt," she told him softly. "I promise."
