(Fade out, and fade back in: )

The next morning, Sarah'd wake up in her bed, and it wouldn't take long to notice Aaron wasn't next to her, where he'd fallen asleep. The hoodie and undershirt he had on last night were still left on the floor, though, and the door was open just a crack.

Once the sleep was out of her eyes, she could probably smell something cooking.

She dabbed his shirt to cover her decency and put on her warmest, fuzziest socks before decided to explore. She was still sleepy and wondered what time it was, but didn't spare the clock a glance.

Yawning, she came out of her room with one hand in her hair, looking half asleep still.

It was about 7:15! Plenty of time, especially since her flight wouldn't leave until ten.

The smell got stronger once she left her room, and when she got into the kitchen she'd see Aaron, shirtless but lower half covered, working at the stove, sweating a little from the heat of the oven and cook top. On the table, there was already a meal prepared for her - a big, fluffy omelette cooked a perfect gold-brown, stuffed with melted cheese as well as some diced up meat and vegetables, a couple slices of buttered, whole grain toast, a respectable amount of well-done bacon, and to the side some fruit. A banana, and some sliced apples.

To wash it all down, he'd put out a tall glass of cold milk. Seems he was cooking breakfast for himself, now that he'd finished hers.

"Well well," she said kindly, beginning to move over towards him. She would try to put her arms around his waist and lean into him, pressing her cheek against his shoulder blade. "Breakfast and everything?"

It wasn't common for somebody to take care of her, and he had a huge meal sitting on the table. Did he really think she'd be able to eat that? All of that?

But it smelled sooooo good.

"Yup, breakfast and everything." There was a light ring to his voice, as he let her wrap her arms round him and lean into him, shadows rising a little to put a bit of a barrier between the hot surface and the backs of her hands. "Figured you'd wake up hungry, so I made yours first. It's cooled down a little, but it'll still be nice and warm for you."

Not only did he think she could eat it all, he expected her to! She needed to keep up her strength, and a nice hot meal was just what the doctor ordered to start the day right. If she peeked around him to look into the pan he's working at, the omelette in progress looked even bigger than the one on her plate.

Even though he was focussed on cooking, he placed one of his hands on the back of hers, his grip gentle and affectionate.

"Sleep well?"

Giving his torso a slight squeeze, she let his hand hold hers for a moment longer before she let go, making her way to circle the table like an unsure predator. God, it smelled good, but she just... wasn't certain how much she could eat.

"I did," she confirmed with a nod. "Really well, in fact." She had anxiety riddled nightmares and woken up a few times, but it was sleep, and that was what she had needed. Besides, with somebody there, she really didn't have a problem getting back to sleep.

Finally, she sat down in front of her plate, lips pursed in challenge.

The breakfast sat there, awaiting its fate, daring her to try to get it all down. Challenging her.

Aaron, meanwhile, took his eyes off the pan for a moment to look over his shoulder at her and shoot her a grin. The first time she'd had a nightmare, she'd woken him up with it, and he'd stayed up until she was asleep again. After that though, he'd unfortunately sort of slept like a rock - it had been a very long past few days, and they'd done pretty well at tiring each other out he thought.

"I'm glad. Look like you're feeling a lot better."

He turned his attention to the cooking food, so nothing could get burnt, but even as he watched the cheese and meat and vegetables melt together atop the egg he was still listening to her. He had to check on the bacon, but at the rate everything was cooking, probably only a couple more minutes.

Hrm. He'd have to buy replacements for all the ingredients he used, after she got on the plane.

She took a piece of bacon off the plate, looking it over almost as if inspecting it. She knew it would be crunchy and cooked to perfection, but it gave her something to focus on as she gathered her thoughts.

She had built a life here. She had friends, a lover, and somebody she called a brother. She had people she adored. She was doing good work. She had turned her entire world around, and here she was... going back to Australia.

To finish the things she hadn't been able to finish before leaving.

She took a bite of the bacon and smiled, looking at him as he continued cooking. It was so nice of him to do this... something to remember when she was back in that hellhole, eating schlop.

"I am, actually," she said before finishing her bacon. "I mean, I'm not looking forward to the flight, but it'll be nice to finally have an end to all of that."

That's one bacon strip down, the whole rest of the breakfast to go!

"However else it goes, at least it's not a loose end." Aaron nodded, understanding! "Besides, you deserve some time in the sun."

He leant over to look in the oven window, checking on his own bacon. It was starting to turn that good crispy brown, maybe a little longer. This specific kind of bacon took a little longer to cook than he was used to. He hummed a little tune to himself as he checked on anything, one of the songs Sarah'd suggested as "their song".

Was couples having a song still a thing? Well, it was a nice gesture, and he'd been thinking on the options, anyhow.
