"We'll end up killing each other," she said, meshing her teeth together painfully. She was surprised they had managed to NOT do that just a bit ago... Her bruises were still fresh.
She cocked a brow, and the humor that usually lit her eyes left, her face falling. Her hands fell to her legs, but what normal people would see as a simple action meant for the sake of comfort, he would see it for exactly what it was.
Her hands fell on the hilts of hidden blades. It was an old habit. And one that died hard. It would, however, show him that she was uncomfortable, and concerned about the answer to her next question.
"I don't have a reason for you not to," she said simply. "I'll scare the hell out of the kids, and they'll learn to pay more attention. But I'm not here to put any of them out of commission, and I'm certainly not here to kill them."
She spoke simply, fingers still resting on the hilts.
"I'm here to help, Jack. Matt's still angry at me for something I did a long time ago, and he has every right. But I'm still here to help."
She stood up from the chair and stretched. "I'll get to work on some of the students. Find you an assistant. Eventually find Abby a temp replacement. Then it'll all be good. We can go from there."
She showed him the list of Intel agents she had. They were her first focus. "I'll see you, Jack. Oh, and if you need help with paperwork?"
She paused long enough for him to get his hopes up. Then, she offered him a teasing sort of smile, hoping he'd relax a bit.
