"All kinds," she said with a smile. "Pretty much everybody, actually. There's always a reason to be fond of somebody, whether you see it at first or not!"
She tries not to be uncomfortable with the observation and just keeps... talking.
"Well, of course it is. I mean, sometimes people aren't the brightest, or they make mistakes, or they're just outright bad people. But they all have a reason, you know? The bad people, for instance, give the good people reason to keep going. The mistakes people make, they learn from, even if it isn't at first. People are resilient. They keep going and going... Even at the brink of death, or in the face of trauma, their souls stay... strong."
Evie smiles at that, resting her elbow on her knee and her chin on her hand.
"No matter what, there's always SOMETHING to be fond of in a person, even if its just their soul. The fact that they have one."
"Not because they're alive." She said, but didn't sound irritated at the confusion. "Because they have a soul. And even if everything else is ugly about them, the soul is an inherently... beautiful thing. It's the core of every person. Every THING."
However, she nodded at Enya's other question. "Because we have a soul, we serve a purpose. We might not know what that purpose is yet, but it's there. It's admirable, don't you think?"
She seemed to get off on a bit of a tangent, here, but tried to keep it relevant.
"Like Ted Bundy, there. He did all of these horrible things, but he changed the world. Maybe not the entire world at large, but he changed the world of the families of those women. It might not have been a positive influence, but he served his purpose. Even in the face of everything he did, his soul stayed strong, not because of some diagnosis but because it was his PURPOSE to do what he did. And all those families? Their entire WORLDS changed, but they still did what THEY needed to do, too."
"You're a lot more twisted than I ever thought you were." she giggles.
"What are your thoughts on natural disasters? All those dead children and babies and husbands and wives? Are you excited by it's effect on the suffering survivors too?" she grins.
When Enya put it like that, it was a lot more difficult to be happy about everything. She shifted awkwardly in place for a moment, resenting the fact that she had been called "twisted." She liked to think of herself as... optimistic.
"Well, it's not much different, other than the fact that it's something soulless that is doing the damage. It's still being done, because everything happens for a reason. And those people still survived. They still endured. So... yeah... I guess that's still something I'm... fond of?"
She shook her head, actually managing to crack a little smile at that.
"Nope. I don't know if I really believe in anything that I haven't witnessed first hand, you know? I KNOW souls are there. I've felt them." Because THAT didn't sound creepy. "I haven't FELT god or anything else."
"I've had a lot of experience with souls," she said, seemingly cavalier about it. "I've felt the souls of all kinds of people. Especially recently. I've kind of always thought that everything happened for a reason, that everyone had a reason, but that really solidified recently."
"Have you ever felt anyone frightening?" Enya asks.
"You spoke fondly of Ted Bundy and fulfilling his purpose, but I think if you read his soul you'd quickly find there was nothing."
She was simply saying so as a warning! If what she said was truly just optimism and seeing the deeper parts of every person, then Enya felt it wouldn't be long before she found things she wish she hadn't.
"There's always something. The soul is always there."
She smiled, giving a little shrug.
"I find people frightening all the time. But that isn't all there is to them. Just because I find somebody frightening doesn't mean that they don't have a purpose."
"Thanks for sharing the documentary with me. And for the conversation. It was nice."
Eve smiled at the girl but it didn't quite reach her eyes. "But I think I'm gonna go. Maybe we can watch another documentary together some other time."
