The strongest scent comes from upstairs, where Jan Di correctly assumes is Rhett's bedroom.
The desk's drawers open up to reveal mostly torn up papers. However, as Jan Di goes through the drawers, the bottom of the lowest drawer falls away, revealing a pretty nicely drawn picture of four rather generic people. One is labeled "Me", the next is labeled "Jan Di", and the other two are labeled "Mom" and "Dad".
However, mom and dad seem to be angrily scribbled over.
"Not necessarily. It's like that whole thing about you don't have to like your parents to love them."
Or something like that.
"But if he wasn't with the Empire why did he lie about living here with relatives? Why did he leave to visit people who weren't here on holidays instead of stay with us?"
In the closet, there are some older clothes, looking like the ones Rhett's grown out of over the years, as well as a small box of keepsakes. They range from pictures of himself, Jan Di, and Josh, to gifts he's been given in the past, to even smaller things like letters to reports he'd been given that had mentioned how well he was performing.
The photos didn't look sinister. He looked like he was being welcomed back.
"I said I'd call him, though. He didn't tell me not to. Maybe we can try that first." she suggests, pulling out her phone and dialing his number. She'd put it on speaker phone so Josh can hear if they get an answer.
