"You mean like... what I'd want for a degree?" Josh hunched his shoulders for a second and let them drop. "Huh. Dunno. Never really thought about it. I didn't excel at anything in school."
"Alright. I'm not... really sure what I... huh." Josh paused. "I don't really know what I want to do for a living. I never even considered playing football professionally."
"Are you kidding?" Josh laughed. "Gymnastics is like, sportiest of sports. Maybe it's not on ESPN but I've seen it on the Olympics. That crap looks impossible!"
He let his head roll to one side lazily. "I just sorta ran at people. I wasn't like, a QB or anything."
"It's high school football, so like... you can usually have a couple positions. I was offensive tackle and defensive tackle dependin' on the season or play," Josh said. "So, short answer, I was a lineman. Makes sense, right? Big heavy dude, pushin' against the other guy..."
He crossed his arms and rested on them. "But yeah. I'm big into like... all of the Olympics when they come around. I can't wait for 'em!"
"I guess you only really like the summer ones, then?" Josh guessed. "Shame. The winter ones are really good too. It's bizarre to try and think about how some sports got invented... like Curling!"
"Okay, so like... so it's on ice, right? So think hockey, only instead of sticks and a puck, the players take these stones, right? And then they slide it along the ice and these other players take brooms. But they're not allowed to touch the stone, okay? They... uh, they sweep the ice really fast in front of the stone to control where it goes and how fast it goes. Then the stone lands on this circle and the more stones on the circle or like... how close they are to the center, the better!"
Leif's laughter was just so damn infectious that Josh couldn't help but laugh a little as well.
"Leave it to the Canadians, I guess," he said, pushing his tray away since he was done with practically everything save a few crumbs here and there. "They make the best sports. But yeah, so we're like... both athletes, just on opposite ends of the spectrum."
"I can run in a straight lane and barrel through stuff. I wouldn't even say I'm the strongest guy, but hey, I know how to throw my weight around!" Josh laughed. "But gymnastics... that stuff's crazy. Especially like, uneven bars."
"You'll have to show me sometime. The next time y'train or whatever, invite me!" Josh swung his leg over to straddle the bench of the lunch table and rested his elbow next to his tray.
"I mean, if you want to. I don't know if it's imposing or anything."
"I think... uh... I need to do that. Maybe turn the ol' keg into a six pack," Josh said, patting his gut. Of course that was a pipe dream, but it never hurt to be in more shape. Still, if getting cut meant not eating whatever he wanted to eat and as much of it as he wanted, well... that was just out of the question.
"I'll follow ya tomorrow, then! Man... every day... how do you find time to do that, anyway?"
