Leif seemed uninjured as she meandered through the safety of the barracks. Nobody spoke to her and she didn't bother to try. Sober since they left the States, she looked like she was about ready to climb the walls. Her own identifiers were tied into her boots, just like Neil taught her, but she wore his dog tags around her neck.
She held something tight in one hand and was looking for Savaak, her only real "friend" out here. Everybody else took a backburner... Savaak was the only one she had formed any kind of powerful bond with, even if that was, in a way, a rivalry.
"Sure." Savaak raises a brow but smiles and nods, falling in line beside Leif, adjusting to life at this new base and now wondering what really is on the other girl's mind. She's not going out of her way to suggest there isn't something.
"Rumor has it, yeah." She offers Leif a polite smile and a tiny shake of her head, offering no other acknowledgement to the offered cigarette. She stretches, lifting her arms overhead once they are clear of people as her fingers stretch towards the sky.
"Good. Because I might end up kicking your ass if you die."
In her free hand, she rubbed the golden necklace between her fingers. Next to the little charm of the sun and the moon, she had attached one of her own dog tags.
"So, hey. Here." She unceremoniously handed the necklace over. "Its... something my brother used to do. Always said it was good luck. Meant we'd see each other again, you know?"
Savaak's lips quirk at the sentiment as she nods. "As long as I get to do the same to you." Her gaze goes to the glimmer of gold in the sunlight, not assuming this is for her at all until she sees the little sun charm. She takes it with grace, letting a single fingertip lightly graze over the dog tag as she reads the name.
Awkward as the gift was, it meant a lot to her. A lot of her friends had disappeared lately or were busy with their own lives. Leif may be someone she met only a few weeks ago, but it was nice.
"Thanks, Leiflet." Her hands gently curl around the necklace, clasping it against her palm. They'd never really actually talked, and she can't miss the past tense reference.
Not to mention, you don't give your dog tags to just anyone.
"When we both make it back, I'll get us a bottle or two of something, and not the cheap stuff, either."
"You're such a good influence," Savaak notes with dry humor. Girl certainly had her fair share of mischief. Not that it was a bad thing, but at the same time, drugs and alcohol both? It explained her behavior now.
"I hear it's kind of a bad thing to drink, smoke, snort, and swallow your pain away." She winked at Savaak, as if it didn't bother her in the slightest.
"Do you?" She seems thoughtful rather than doubt her. The words remind her of her experience in the time warp a couple weeks ago. She'd made being boiled alive from the inside look good, then.
"It won't last forever, and some people are more perceptive than others." Another pause.
"I started because life sucked, my parents expected perfection, and it was fun to go out and be the letdown they told me I was. Then, I stopped, to try and go in to the military. Started again after Neil died."
Another small nod, letting Leif speak as she chose without interrupting. Her fingers lace together behind her as she listens, noting various things in the short explanation.
