Well he knows his portals don't do much when Faustus can just counter them. But he had one trick left up his sleeve. Something that Faust gave him. Maybe magic would work?
He pulled off the hat, turning it back into a top had and reached in to pull out... well he didn't know what. Just the vague and desperate hope that he could pull out something to stop him from dying.
"You are too correct, girl. Come." He speaks to both of them as he takes Orchid by the hand, leading her back to her room, which has been furnished however she dare dreamed!
"This is the tragic tale of Doctor Faustus." He starts as he tucks her in, conjuring a chair for Eric to sit in.
"He was but a magician, playing parlor tricks with his oldest friend, Millicent. She was a beautiful woman, long red hair and eyes as green as the grass outside. She was far more kind and intelligent than the magician, but regardless she loved him as much as he loved her." .
Eric clutched the pendant tightly, but opted to not put it on for now. Nor did he take the chair, not trusting Faust to not change it into something to restrain him. He'd just stand... and listen.
Like her mother, Orchid seems to favour the colour pink. At least right now. Otherwise it seems to be decorated with a lot of imagery of classic fairy tales!
Faustus has her full attention as he tells the story!
"She was indeed...her beauty was beyond that of the magicians deserving. As such, he craved more for himself to be able to better provide for her. He ended up finding like minded individuals and he learned much more than he could have ever anticipated. The magics were no longer just tricks, but reality. With them the magician was able to be more than a show man, he became a king. But for the others he aligned himself with, being a king was not enough. They wanted to be gods."
Eric found his thumb tracing the pattern on the pendant as he listened to Faust's story. Part of it felt very familiar to himself. He wasn't sure how he felt about that...
Not that she entirely knew what that meant. Just a bit from her grandparents. But they always said there was just one God and believing in other ones was a sin.
"Faustus would be lying if he said no...but the cost was too great. For that much power came a great deal of pain. People were hurt, killed, lands destroyed. Eventually it became too much and Faustus had to stop them, but he wasn't strong enough. So to stop a god he had to make a deal with a devil." He frowns.
Eric frowns with him. He didn't know how much he believed in Gods and Devils. But he knew there was something out there. The attack on Chicago was proof that something was out there. Whether divine or otherwise spawned was beyond him.
"They threatened Millicent, so Faustus had to barter. Ghast offered Faustus more power than he could imagine, but at the cost of what was most sacred to him--indeed his soul. Faustus agreed and he was able to beat back the others but what he had not known was that Ghast spoke in riddles and poems, not in literals. Ghast took the soul from Faustus' heart. As soon as Millicent was safe she was stricken dead. Ghast took Faustus' soul. He took the beat from his heart--he took his love Millicent."
