PHYSICAL
MJ’s mixed heritage has offered her a diverse gene pool to draw attributes from, even though it is evident that her Western and Northern-European roots are dominant. Her Middle-Eastern background maintains a subtle presence in her features, only serving to compliment her mainly caucasian appearance. There is a desirable heart-shape to her face, her small, pointed chin giving way to a feminine jawline and high, yet discreet set of cheekbones. The most flattering aspects of this girl’s face would have to be her large, vibrant blue-green eyes and distinctive nose that accentuate her otherwise average lips.

An extensive history in athletics has rewarded MJ with a fit body and a monstrous metabolism that would make most girls jealous. Her background in gymnastics, a sport that is physcally demanding and requires excellent upper body and core strength, has given her broad shoulders (for a girl) and a toned abdomen. Sports such as soccer and basketball have built a good amount of muscle in MJ’s legs and gluteals, giving her more of a pear-shaped body and an explosive amount of strength in her lower body. Overall, MJ is fairly lean due to her metabolism, but there is a healthy amount of fat on her body to give her a ‘softer’ appearance.

There are several minor imperfections in MJ’s creamy complexion, most of which cannot be seen if she is wearing clothes. Her body is ridden with finger-thin scars, mainly on her back, shoulders, arms and legs, but none of them are too outstanding. Once a natural blonde, MJ has since hacked her hair short, to about chin-length, and dyed it black. An athletic and military background has granted MJ with rough, calloused hands, ones that most men would avoid holding.

SUPERFICIAL
MJ has adopted a primarily punk/indie style to her wardrobe, which consists mostly of skirts, jumpers, tank tops, and zip-up hoodies. She holds a strong affinity for skirts, jumpers, and any sort of feminine dress since she feels as if she has been deprived of her feminity since being enrolled into the Henry Knox Academy, which calls for a strict dress code of military fatigues in camoflauge depending on the season. She also loves tights, stockings, and any sort of legwear or socks that are not considered trousers or jeans, though she will on occasion wear a pair of denim. As for footwear, MJ finds the black combat boots provided by the Academy rather comfortable, albeit unfashionable, and can be seen wearing them most of the time if she’s not sporting a pair of Chuck Taylor’s.

Given MJ’s upbringing in sports and military, she is a minimalist when it comes to accessories and make-up, since they only serve to hinder or interfere with what you’re doing. When it comes to make-up, MJ limits herself to eyeliner, mascara, and lip gloss or lipstick, giving her a somewhat ‘scene’ look about her, but most of the time she goes without it as sweat and dirt tends to smudge make-up and make it look messy. It is rare to find MJ wearing bracelets, rings, or necklaces, with the exception of hair ties around her wrist and military dog tags that outline her vital information, because they tend to get caught or are just plain obstructive when trying to perform certain tasks.

Piercings, especially of the eyebrow and lip variety, are a no-no in sports and the military. However, MJ likes the look of piercings, and opted for a tongue barbell since it is mostly hidden and does not interfere with her hands or feet, nor does it run the risk of getting caught and being torn out. MJ also loves tattoos, and has the name of one of her favourite bands, Sublime, tattooed on the inside of her right calf. Another band tattoo is located just above her right breast, reading ‘NOFX’, and a skull with crossboness and a hair bow is tattooed to the left of her navel. She also owns a pair of black-framed glasses, but it is rare to see her wear them since she dislikes how they look on her.

CEREBRAL
MJ is the human embodiment of fire; she burns brightly and vigorously, and can provide warmth and light if kept under control. However, get too close and you’ll get burned; become lenient with the fire and it will become an out of control blaze. Though her time at Henry Knox has given her some discipline and contained the fire somewhat, MJ is still very much a sporadic flame when free from the prying eyes of her superiors. She has a tongue that would make sailors blush and an attitude that would make her viking ancestors proud. She is ambitious and competitive, taking what she deems as hers without concern for others and feeling that she must constantly prove she is the best. When things don’t go her way, MJ is likely to lose her temper.

The Henry Knox Academy has taught her to direct that flame; that aggression and contention to a cause rather than let it spread wildly and burn everything in its path. Only recently has she taken heed to these lessons as maturity settles in, and slowly she is transforming from a destructive to a constructive flame. Her fuse isn’t blown over minor things as it once was, and she is learning to think before she acts, allowing logic to prevail over instinct and emotion. That doesn’t stop MJ from being direct and aggressive in her methods, however, and she often comes off as hostile or angry.

Those who accept her for her brash, competitive and sometimes selfish persona will have gained a fiercely loyal friend. She often gives people the benefit of the doubt and gives them a blank slate to start with in her eyes, and what they do will paint the picture that she sees. Trust is given out and immediately rebuked once proven that it cannot be kept; breaking MJ’s trust instantly lands you on her shit list. Her stubborn attitude does not allow her to drop grudges, and she will often maintain contempt for someone for an extended period of time. This stubborness also causes MJ to refuse defeat, even if it is staring her in the face.

OTHER
• Extremely athletic and charismatic; was elected team captain for the varsity girls’ soccer, basketball, flag football, volleyball, and baseball teams.
• MJ has also been very successful in individual sports such as tennis, artistic gymnastics, freestyle swimming, 100-metre dash, and fencing because of her athleticism.

• Not only is she athletically gifted, but she does very well in her academics.
• Is fluent in English, French, and Afrikaans(variation of Dutch), and can understand and speak Spanish to a lesser degree.

COMBAT
Grades:
STR • DEX • CON • WIS
C • D • B • C

Style:
Freestyle would best describe MJ’s method of hand-to-hand combat. Rather than having a lot of experience in a single art, she opts to have a wide range of knowledge in different arts, though that knowledge is not as deep as it would be if the same effort was put into a single art. This, combined with her naturally exceptional athleticism give MJ a diverse arsenal to mount an offense and defense with. Her fighting style’s primary influence would be the Marine Corps Martial Arts Program taught to cadets in the Henry Knoc Academy, and competitive fencing that she has been involved in most of her life. There are also some acrobatic movements that she has her gymnastics background to thank for. Both striking and grappling have been integrated into her style, and she executes either with considerable efficiency.

- - -
• Jill-of-all-trades, master of none.
• Vulnerable on her back.
• If one is perceptive enough, she has noticeable patterns in her offense.
• Past injuries from sports make parts of her body more susceptible to damage.
• More of an athlete than a fighter.
• Not as graceful as most fighters of her size.

+ + +
• Versatile.
• Very flexible and acrobatic.
• Very technical; can generate lots of power within a short distance.
• Quick learner
• Viciously strong grip

HISTORY
Born in the city of Franschhoek, South Africa to an American Captain in the USMC and a South African exotic dancer whose origins lied in France, Mary Jane was the second child and only daughter of the newlywed Lovelocks. Her older brother, James, was born four years prior, but it was not until they found out Michelle was pregnant with Mary Jane that they decided to get married. Six years after her birth the couple moved their family to their father’s homeland—the United States of America.

When Mary’s parents noticed she had a tendency to climb onto high ledges and jump off of them, they immediately saw talent and enrolled her into gymnastics class at the age of seven. She was easily taught and seemed to be naturally gifted physically, and within a short amount of time she had managed to surpass her peers through sheer talent and effort. As her father discovered, these traits translated well into other sports; MJ had an innate skill for physical activities, and her talent would not be wasted. She was signed up for several local sports teams and was always a member of her school sports teams. It was her father that mostly had influence on her and her brother; her mother was still rather young and immature, and was deemed not fit to be a maternal figure by her father. This caused MJ to grow up with mainly male influences and girls on her teams that were not much different than herself. That, coupled with almost every moment of her free time being spent in competitive sports are what built the foundation for her aggressive, competitive, and tomboyish attitude.

Mary spent her life in her older brother’s shadow, always chasing after his back like some distant goal. She was always criticized for “not being more like James,” who was not only as athletically gifted as Mary was (must be the genes), but also academically skilled. He was obedient, respectful, maintained a 4.0 GPA, and was always the star player on his school teams, while her parents often received phonecalls from school about her behaviour. It was hard for Mary to be second best, and she grew envious of the praise her parents’ gave her older brother. Her best efforts were never good enough for her parents to regard her like they did James, and this frustrated Mary gravely, causing her to act out in school out of frustration. Mary’s parents did not seem to understand this, and the terrible cycle continued. She persevered, however, as her desire to be the best was relentless.

It was not until James entered university and Mary entered high school that she got recognition for her accomplishments. Her father decided to enroll her into the Henry Knox Academy like he had her brother, as he believed it would teach her discipline and make her a better student and athlete. The praise of her instructors and coaches gave Mary a confidence boost, and it made her feel like she finally got the acknowledgement she deserved. However, that wasn’t good enough for her; though it was nice, she felt like she had to prove to her parents—and to her brother—that she was better than him. Sadly, she would never get the chance. During the summer of her freshman year, Mary’s father was killed in action.

This shook the family deeply; her mother turned into an alcoholic who took her sorrow and anger out on the young girl in the form of verbal and physical abuse. Since James was off at university, Mary became a magnet for all of her mother’s emotions. It was then that she realized her mother was a weak woman, and that she never wanted to be like her. Only her father’s recognition was worth fighting for, and now that he was gone, she only had herself and James to prove she was the best to. And that’s exactly what she would do. Mary spent less time at home and more time on campus residence, and eventually she stopped returning home at all.

In the year that passed it was evident that Mary was excelling in all of her classes and extracirricular activities. She was the top student and star athlete of her sophomore year, but felt as if she was still inadequate; she hadn’t received the the title of Varisty Captain, who was reknown for their athletic prowess and ability to lead their team to victory, which was usually reserved for junior and senior students. Now in her junior year, Mary feels like it’s her time to prove that she is indeed the best; she intends to seize the school athletically and academically, but with tension building between the three schools and their newly appointed administrators, she may be dragged into something bigger than simple matters of sports and studying.[/ul]

An incredible biography. Original, well written and comfortable to see. However, there is one minor issue I have before approval: the grade layout you have doesn't tell us which grade is assigned to which attribute; this is confusing, and thus the grades could conflict with Mary's various strengths and weaknesses. Please clear that up and you'll be approved.

Edit: Changes made. Bio approved; welcome to The Collective.
