Name: Zoharin Nima Cross Nickname(s): Zora, Zoey, Zozo Status: Junior Agent Age: 16 Gender: Female Nationality: American Ethnicity: 3/4 Caucasian mix, 1/8 Arab, 1/8 Turkish Cypriot Height: 5'4" Weight: 134 lbs Religious Beliefs: Shia Islam Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual Appearance:
Unlike her brother, Zoharin retains a bit more of her mother's Mediterranean features. Her skin is a light olive, and her hair the same chocolate brown. Her eyes, though, have taken on the more recessive of her mother's genes as well as her father's, as Zoharin possesses rare heterochromia - one eye is brown and the other green. Her facial structure is soft, with less of the sharp features of her mother, with a rounder, more inviting feel.
Bodily, Zoharin is lithe, with a bit of curve already coming through. An early bloomer, Zora knows that there's something to be shown off, but typically restrains from doing so. This is reflected in her usual attire - jean jackets, loose shirts, long sleeves. Physically speaking, though, the young woman is in fantastic physical shape - her mother would have it no other way. Lean and toned, Zora's musculature is faint, but to see her in motion is to recognize the fitness just beneath her skin.
Personality: Zoharin's personality is erratic, to say the least. Most of the time, she's bubbly and personable - perhaps not the first person in a crowd to stand out and introduce herself, but readily available to engage and be engage after warming up a bit.
At the drop of a hat, though, Zora's mood can change considerably. As a girl just entering the height of puberty, with her upbringing and the weight of her responsibility always looming over her head, it doesn't take much to plunge the girl into melancholy. During these periods, she withdraws rapidly, seeking her own personal comforts away from anyone else, except maybe her brother. These moods usually don't last long, though, especially when given the appropriate time to recharge.
Under some circumstances, though, Zoharin's entire outlook can change even more significantly. At the right suggestion during the right time of day, under the right alignment of the planets to the sun, Zora gets a wild hair and has to act on it. A strong rebellious streak resides in her, and it's just as likely to manifest in her slacking off her duties for the day to play video games as she is to steal a car and park it across town just to see if she can get away with it. Her sense of family, while just as strong as her brother's, also carries with it a certain sense of oppression that she just can't help but try and shake, sometimes.
All in all, Zoharin is part tomboy, part girly, part emo kid, and part crazy person, all rolled up with a sense of familial loyalty that somehow manages to bind all four into one semi-cohesive package.
Interests: Music (all kinds), gymnastics, philosophy, sketching.
Skills:Advanced Marksmanship - Zoharin is well versed in the use of various guns. From handguns to assault rifles and sniper rifles. Unlike her brother, Zora prefers long rifles, especially long-range sniper rifles. She was drilled rigorously by her mother, as well, upon following her brother to Paradigm. That meant not only being able to shoot well, but also showing perfect gun safety and the ability to disassemble, clean, and reassemble any gun.
Advanced Hand-to-hand combat - Zoharin is also well versed in hand-to-hand combat, specifically the style taught to the United States Marine Corp as her mother has taught her. Her mother would never allow her to fall under any more strict standards than her brother, after all.
Swimming - It was not unlikely to find Zoharin out at in the water with Aaliyah and Taner. While she never achieved quite the mastery of her brother (she would often get bored and sunbathe instead), she still finds herself just as at home in water as she is on land.
Tri-Linguistic - As a child of separate cultures, Zoharin learned several languages. English, of course, as the language of America but also Turkish and Arabic. Aaliyah taught her all three from an earlier age, Turkish from one part of her heritage and Arabic as another but more importantly the language of Islam.
Basic Training - As part of her mother's demands, Zoharin was also trained under the same Marine structure. This means she is well-versed in tactics and survival methods, same as any soldier.
Musical Aptitude - From a young age, Zoharin found her calling in music, learning to play the piano from the time she was able to read. By now, she's a fairly skilled pianist, with varying levels of talent on the guitar and darbuka drum. Her current project (and likely favorite) is the sitar, an Indian stringed instrument.
Abilities/Powers:Sand Form - Zoharin has the ability to convert herself into a destructive sand blast by simultaneously transforming the substance of her body into loose silicon particles and creating an explosive release at her center, expelling her sandy mass at high velocity in all directions, then cause her particles to reassemble themselves back into her human form. With apparent telepathic control, she can then move at high velocity resembling a sand storm. The sand storm effect is strong enough to destroy steel and rip the flesh from one's bones, this is helped by the microscopic edges of the sand particles acting as tiny blades. She can also (theoretically) enter peoples lungs and scour them from the inside.
Resistance to Damage - Zoharin, when in dust form, is basically impervious to damage. Any attack simply unsettles the sand cloud, but with her control over her own molecules, she can easily reshape herself elsewhere. This resilience also manifests itself passively, and as a reaction to being struck, her body will collapse the damaged area into sand temporarily. Manipulating the sand, such as with wind, water, or heat, however, still effect her greatly. If her particles are scattered too far, it takes great mental concentration to pull herself back together. Water can turn her particles to mud, slowing her ability to move and/or reform, and heat can turn her into glass, which not only hurts through her sand-form, but also once again requires great effort and time to pull herself back together. If Zora is knocked out or otherwise rendered unconscious, she will always revert to her human form.
Telepathic Resistance - When in Sand Form, Zoharin has no physical mind to speak of, which makes her nearly impossible to focus on telepathically for the duration.
Slight Healing Factor - Though far less than anyone with a dedicated healing ability, Zoharin constantly reassembles herself a little better than she left herself, healing most surface wounds instantly and speeding up the process of larger ones slightly. Granted, shifting to Sand Form requires a certain amount of concentration, so simply shifting back and forth when under intense pain becomes more trouble than it helps.
History: Zoharin is the second twin of Aaliyah Cross and [REDACTED], only a scant couple minutes behind her brother out of the womb. Just as her brother, Taner, Zora spent the first formative years of her life under the care of their grandparents while Aaliyah was out in the field.
Upon her mother's return, Zoharin was horrified at the change. Even though Aaliyah had seemingly not changed from what little she had been able to see her in the years prior, seeing the mechanical prosthetic never seemed to set well in her mind. She withdrew, staying in her room with just her music and her thoughts.
Her powers began to show themselves a bit earlier than her brother's, though she mostly kept it to herself. When showering, she would find herself sloughing off congealing dirt, no matter how much of an effort she'd make to stay clean. When alone in her room, she would experiment, learning the basics of what she could do. She had always planned on keeping it a secret. She knew what people with powers did, how they became assets, and how they became targets. Her mother, powerless now, still was all-too-telling a tale of the horrors of being a metahuman.
Thus, she could not have been more horrified when Taner expressed both his supernatural agility, and his desire to join Paradigm.
She spent days agonizing over what to do next. Aaliyah had accepted Taner's requests, but only under strict conditions - his mental and physical merits had to be on-point, and she planned to work him rigorously to ensure both. Zora had no desire to follow in her mother's footsteps, but with Taner's insistence on involving himself, she felt she had no choice. Taner had always had a penchant for getting himself into trouble growing up, and Zora knew that adding powers and dangerous missions into the mix couldn't help those matters at all. So when Taner showed up for his training that first day, Zoharin was right there beside him, eyes forward, mouth showing no outward discouragement, and began the training regiment, all the same.
Both Crosses had always been bright and apt young ones, so getting the required grades and passing the training their mother put upon them was only a matter of course. The applications were sent in, even though Zora crossed her fingers and prayed every day to find out that, for some reason, they had been denied.
