...had the right idea. She should have mapped everything out when Taner took her for a tour, but she was just so glad to be away from the tension, she hadn't really paid much attention to where she was going.
Let's see... Down that hall was the Tutorial, right?... and there were stairs somewhere that would lead her to the faculty, and...
Food. She closed her eyes for a moment. Food she didn't have to cook. She was just about to go into the room he left without a word when she realized it was empty.
"Um, excuse me," she said, turning back around. Maybe he had recently come from the cafeteria and had just wanted to eat alone.
Just... what? She blinked at the food for a moment, and almost missed his directions.
Clearing her throat - it's rude to stare, Evie! - she nodded.
"Not NEW new, but since I'm not a student, I usually don't have to come into the Academy itself. I have been cooking at the Pod, or we've been ordering food in."
She offered a smile, trying to avoid her little lapse in judgement.
"There's only so much Chinese or pizza a girl can handle."
"There's something about street vendor hot dogs, lathered in condiments, with sauerkraut or something layered on. It doesn't matter what place tries to replicate it... It's not New York hot dogs."
She smiled fondly at the memory, closing her eyes for just a moment. She could almost taste the greasy goodness.
When she closed her eyes he'd put his free hand behind his back, opening a portal and he'd pull out a street vendor dog just lathered in sauerkraut and onions and other toppings. Pulling it from behind his back he'd hold it to her.
The smell hit her first, and her eyes popped open in child-like wonder.
"What?" she demanded, though there was only excitement in her voice. "How did you manage that??" She would reach for it, then pause, wondering if it wasn't somehow an illusion.
"Magic?" she chuckled, and would take the hot dog if it were offered.
Pausing for a moment, she stared at it, inspecting it, before taking a bite.
Then, her face would really light up. Her eyes were brilliant blue and her smile was wide. Hiding her mouth behind one hand, she finished her bite before she said, "Wow! This is... actually a New York hot dog! That's some kind of magic!"
