Arlington Nation Cemetery
Washington D.C.

It has been a long time since Aaliyah had last been here last, almost four years in fact. She'd skipped lunch to get her work done as quickly as possible so she could take the half day and make the trip. It was always easier to come during the week as there was less chance of being happened upon by unwanted eyes. Besides, it isn't uncommon for a Marine Corps Captain to visit the graves of fallen comrades, though that isn't today's goal.

The weather is cool but not cold, though Aaliyah's cybernetics make even a mild mid 50's day with a slight breeze more uncomfortable than it should be. Granted, she always disliked cold weather having grown up most of her life in Florida and Southern California. The adjustment to the brisker northern areas of the U.S. has not been working as well as she might have hoped. To combat this, Aaliyah has thrown up a heavy peacoat over her business suit to shield her from the weather as she walks through the rows of gravestones. Tucked in her left arm is a bundle of flowers, red tulips to be precise, a gift for the grave she plants to visit.

A heavy sigh escapes her as Aaliyah stands before the gravestone of one Dain Gavyns, a somber smirk gracing her aged features. She slowly bends down to gently sweep away some fall leaves while placing the flowers there. She maintains the lower squatting position, as though to speak face to face with the grave's occupant or more so their memorialized spirit.

"Hey, so it's been a while but I'm sure there were others to keep you company. Although, that may not be the case as much anymore."

She admits halfheartedly, the shame and guilt very present in her voice as she takes another deep sign. It shouldn't be this difficult to admit mistakes to someone long gone, but it is.

"I... messed up. I lost control of the situation and... Jack knows. I'm so sorry."

She brings her left hand to the bridge of her nose, pinching slightly as she catches her emotions.

"I told him, I know I shouldn't have but I couldn't find a way out without him digging deeper on his own. I imagine he's told Ran by now. I'm sorry I let you down, after so long..."

Aaliyah takes a deep breath to control herself emotionally again.

"Maybe that's just an excuse, maybe I just wanted to stop worrying about hiding everything. It's selfish, I know, but I've always been that way. I'm sorry."

The Marine slowly stands up again, standing at attention with a salute. She holds the position for about half a minute before turning to leave.
