"I want to be able to help you, and I really don't like arguments. Most of the other Agents here are a little... prone to quick reactions. I'd rather get this over with so that something can actually be done and we don't waste anybody's time."
She gave a light shrug, keeping her hand on the glass. "You can say no, of course. I know how uncomfortable it must feel, and I'd rather we work together."
She smiled at him, laughing slightly. "Kieran, I'm not trying to take your bargaining tools away from you. Just because I believe you doesn't mean that others will be convinced."
She tilted her head to the side, still smiling.
"I'm trying to skip the whole 'interrogation' mess. I really have no interest in sitting in a room for hours, listening to people ask you the same stupid question, over and over again, just because they can't understand your answers."
Evie gets images of several times Kieran has made a deal with someone, and each time, he has ensured that that he has done everything possible to hold up his end of the bargain!
Since dates are kind of iffy, we'll say that Elizabeth was twenty nine when she passed away four years ago, and Madison was five when she passed the same year.
Kieran says nothing, and instead just watches her with a neutral mask of an expression.
She nodded. A beer. Restricting from his mind, she back away from the glass.
"Thank you, Kieran. I'll do whatever I can to make that happen."
She smiled gently at him before turning to leave, passing Aaron and Silas on the way out. Her eyes became dark and gard as she looked at both of them, then she turned her head away and made a soft "hmph," noise before leaving.
Aaron gave Evelyn an apologetic look as she left, and then found himself sort of standing there. Eventually, though, he walks up to the glass, slowly, having let Kieran digest whatever went on in his and Evie's heads.
"Kieran, can I ask you something? Completely off the record - I'm talking to you as a man, not a Paradigm agent."
"If the Director signs off on this deal, I'm curious what you expect to happen once you're in power, what you'd expect us to be doing. We work to topple the rest of the Empire but ignore you?" Save him for last?
"Let's go with a hypothetical: the war starts up, and the Russians, with all their tanks and planes and soldiers and meta agents, come charging over the border. Let's say because the Imperial front is so huge, a breakthrough happens somewhere. If that happened, would you be trusting us to get them to back off, leave you alone?"
The Kremlin and Russia's meta agency had been really grateful for the help stopping Mr. Amtrum from starting WW3, but that was over 15 years ago; Aaron wasn't sure they were so grateful they'd listen to being told "hey, leave this specific Imperial territory alone".
"I like to think that they'll see my good behavior and leave me alone. And if not, I'll show them why they really should. Sometimes you need to give the bully a bloody nose before he backs off."
