She conjures some ink and shapes it with her hands, instead of poofing it. After it gives off some wisps of smoke and flame, she makes a bracelet for Nicky! Made of silver and pearls. Internally, Valencia hopes she likes it.
"So making a shrink ray with my power wouldn't help too much. Lots of reality rule bending, it's hard to transport, and Goldie could blast it out of existence, along with whomever is operating it. Man, what other options do we got. Should we get other agents involved, or too dangerous?"
"Oh, well THAT'S a relief." she says sarcastically, even if that's probably lost on him.
Nicky takes the bracelet and puts it on her wrist, checking it out with a chuckle.
"Fancy. You do good work, Val."
She'd talk about it more, but Val brings up a good point.
"It might be dangerous for anyone below senior agent. And even then. I'd say we need someone who has any kind of ability not in danger of getting hit by that beam, right? Maybe super strength or magnetism, orrr. Oh! We could ask Mathew? He took down one of those dragon machines with his rocks, maybe he can do that again with Goldie?"
"Right. Wasn't afraid to aim at you though, Edward."
She doesn't even want to know how Shaolin was planning on repairing Edward.
"That is a good idea, Nicky. The earth itself isn't one of my constructs, so if the beam isn't strong enough to permeate through stone, Mathew should be fine. Magnetism would've torn the robot up, though super strength itself may have to deal with spacing to keep out of range. The bear has a lot of cannons."
Nicky gives him a few pats on the back. It's hard to break things to someone without seeming mean, but they probably don't want him trying to run away because they're shitty company, either.
"Sounds like we're going with Mathew." she nods, calling him up on her watch!
"Be there in a few seconds." she says, hanging up.
Nicky closes her eyes, and after a few seconds of charging, poofs away.
After another few seconds she poofs back to the same spot, but with Mathew!
"So we didn't get to explain much, but Valencia's been on quite the adventure so that the deal with the robot bear. I'll have to go check on the reports of what the hell happened here." she motions to the school.
Mathew's lips pressed into a thin line as he viewed the wreckage that had once been Paradigm. A waste. There was little question about who was responsible. Not that it mattered who the specific Imperial Agent was that did this, it was all part of the war effort, and this time the Empire had made a decisive strike.
He imagined agents had been injured and killed in the attack, such things were part of the risk of war. However, if there was still an immediate threat here in Chicago that had to take precedence over any pointless questions.
"Then give me the relevant details of what we are dealing with."
Valencia gives Edward a disturbed look. She moves to remove the poor balloonicorn until Mathew shows up. The creature squeaks in the background.
She conjures miniature Goldie for reference.
"This is Goldie. It's actually much, much, much bigger in person, massive even, but its sole purpose is to retrieve Edward, one of the Empire's top R & D researchers, should he ever be removed from his workshop, especially by our likes. It fires a green beam from its chest that saps powers."
She points at Goldie's head.
"If what Edward recalls is correct, there's a switch in Goldie's head that can turn off its nuclear reactor. Its sensor, likely for sensing powers or Edward's biology, would be in the way, since the switch is closer to Goldie's eyes. One way to get this done would be to hold Goldie down to pop open its head, as Nicky suggested. Edward said that it usually takes around 20 minutes to half an hour for Goldie to retrieve him, but this is the first time Edward has been taken out of Germany. Around, 15-20 minutes have elapsed since I kidnapped him."
