Kira was in her usual pair of plain black track shorts, only this time she was wearing a plain white cotton t shirt. Her hair was back in her usual long braid and she was already covered in sweat and breathing hard. She had been on the track running straight for about fifteen minutes now.

Her goal was to make it at least fifteen more before some cool down laps, she had already hit the weight room, and this was sort of her cool down from that, and after this she would head to the shooting range to play with her toys and then head back to her room and complete her homework, go to sleep and then do it all over again. She was a very simple girl, very focused, she lived off a routine, and she hardly ever broke it. Her only day of rest being Sunday, and even then she still hit the weight room, determined to stay as strong as the men, it was obsessive compulsive for her.

She focused on the sound of her running shoes hitting the track ground as she ran on the inside circle so as to avoid anyone that would slow her down or get in her way. It was annoying to have to deal with the walkers and the slow pokes, or the just plain lazy ones. This wasn’t a game to her, she had the desire to be a serious sniper assassin for the military and that meant being in tip top condition, in all aspects. It was why she kept up such a rigorous and demanding routine, and few people could understand her or respect her for it.

She was the freak of the school, that was for sure. It wasn’t that she wasn’t friendly or enjoyable to be around, she liked her laughs and her friends, the few that she had, but she just had different goals then everyone else and she was serious about her future. Her heart pounded in her ears as she rounded the curve in the track, the sweat dripping down her spine until finally she was back on the long stretch.

Ari went out in a thick pair of jeans, t-shirt, and a light jacket that he left open. Sure it wasn't that cold outside, never was, but he was still getting used to the climate. And he was trained to run in heavy gear if necessary, and to build up stamina, and resistance to the heat.

So why would he want to run out and push himself with hard training? Well that was simple, and easily explained. Things were mounting and frustrating him and his mind could not be forced blank as he wanted it to.

There was someone else on the track when he arrived, but he ignored the figure as he simply drove his feet into the ground, leading off with a hard sprint. Each long stride was bringing him closer to the figures back, but his mind was still flooded with thoughts.

Ari was catching up to the figure, within ten feet, when his mouth started moving in nearly intangible tangent. The gist of which was his seething frustration at not knowing what the hell was going wrong with his romantic life, mostly describing the situation vaguely, until it came down to the "I just need some time" line that was till tearing it's way through his stomach.

Kira’s heart was pounding steadily in her chest, the blood rushing past her ears as she focused on keeping her breathing steady and her pace constant. It wasn’t a strenuous run by any means, but it wasn’t a soft jog either. She hadn’t been paying much attention to the other kids messing around on the track like it was a game, but she did notice when someone started to pass her. She looked up and noticed who it was and a hint of a smile graced her features as she pushed herself harder to catch up and fall into step with him.

It was a fast paced Sprint and she was thankful she had the warm-up to accommodate the tempo that they were running at. “Hey Haswari,” she got out between a few steady puffs of breath. She had gotten to know the guy through some of their classes together, and unlike some of the ones afraid to befriend him because of his oh so interesting introduction to the Academy, she wasn’t afraid of him. Though she had no reason to give him a reason to treat her the way he had treated some of the others.

She minded her own business, she respected him, she thought it was mutual but she could be wrong. It was just easy for her to get along with someone that had motivation, determination, a goal in life. He seemed to have those. She also wasn’t falling all over him like some of the girls she had seen around campus, like her roommate that seemed to be infatuated with him. That was another reason she knew him…..Aleece.

“Time for what?” she asked, pushing her body forward to keep in time with his, having caught one of his self ramblings and now ever curious, though she had no idea it was a romantic entanglement.

Thoughts and images were still curled in tight knots inside his mind, passion, anger, turmoil, frustration so tightly tangled that he couldn't differentiate from the other, and translated the excess emotional energy he felt into breaking in his new Knox issued footwear.

Although it seemed like there wasn't much reason to burning out his energy in a pure sprint as he had intended, the figure he had passed caught up with him, and ended up being Kira. After his little introduction she seemed to be the only girl that seemed to want to be a respected friend, instead of fearful or fawning, which suited him just fine.

While he was still as witty and charming as ever it was a much more relaxed atmosphere around Kira. She was much more interested in her own business, and her very determined and motivated persona reminded him of some of his less frustrating days in his homeland. Respecting her was simple, but it was hard to forget she was a young woman and not a young man.

Unlike most, who would focus on that much too much, he had proven to be completely uninterested in anything but a friendship. Things with Aleece were confusing, and Kira felt more like a comrade in arms than anything romantically confusing. "Ah, apologizes. I was... distracted." He thought as he turned his head, slowing his pace to a comfortable run, finding his breathing already deep, but he kept steady.

"I'm just having a mental breakdown, don't mind me."

When he slowed his rather rapid pace she adjusted hers with ease, having already been at this for a good fifteen minutes so she was already in the motions. Even though she was running in time with Ari she kept her head facing forward, watching where she was going, keeping track of him out of the corner of her eye. Despite seeming to have a running partner she didn’t use that as a reason to let up, if he stopped running she wouldn’t. Simple as that, didn’t mean that while they ran together they couldn’t converse between breaths.

The atmosphere around Ari was comfortable and almost….professional. They seemed to share an understanding for each other and that suited her just fine. True he could be charming and witty, and she wasn’t going to lie and say he didn’t have a fit and handsome body, but it just wasn’t where her priorities were in life, so it was easy for her to overlook. She harbored no romantic feelings for Ari, much less anyone.

She also had a impression of him, she didn’t seem him as a unlevel headed person, she didn’t see him as the type to actually break under any kind of pressure. So his apology sort of surprised her because for one she wasn’t sure why he was apologizing, and when he mentioned a mental breakdown she didn’t know what to think. “Why exactly are you having a mental breakdown if you don’t mind me asking?” she inquired. She wasn’t the type to go flapping secrets, she minded her own, and the only reason she was asking not so much because she wanted to know, but because she wanted to give him a sounding board to bounce his frustration off of. “You keep it bottled in, it’ll eat at you.” She warned in a matter of fact way.

Ari wasn't quite aware of how Kira reacted to his little mental troubles. He was too focused on going insane, until she did him the favor of asking him to voice what was eating away at him. But while he kept pace, his breaths deep but controlled as he was burning away his energy and hopefully his thoughts.

So he also decided he would he spout off his worries, although the decision was made after his lips were already moving, using his words to expel oxygen. "Your roommate is infuriating." He explained bluntly, his firsts words, likely unsurprising as relationship problems in high school were hardly anything new.

For half the track he focused just on the rhythmic pumping of his limbs, the sweat he could feel dampening his back while his front was relatively dry by the wind pressing against his chest. "I was her first, she cannot resist me, but it seems she has kept a rather large fellow as a secondary interest, who I am seriously considering crippling after he decided provoking me by mentioning the Holocaust was a wise choice."

Kira listened intently to Ari as he expelled his thoughts and emotions on her. She wasn’t a fan of the girly gossip that most of her roommates, much less half the Academy and other adjourning schools participated in. However she could appreciate the fact that sometimes one just needed to vent, even the male population. It was even better when the person you were venting to could be trusted to keep their mouth shut and lips locked. It enabled a body of mutual trust. When he mentioned that her roommate was infuriating she automatically assumed Aleece - who else could he be talking about.

She listened as he confided personal information about the two of them. She hadn’t known before now that Aleece was even a virgin before Ari, much less that she had lost it to him – an example of how often she doesn’t participate in the girl bonding ritual of gossip. She didn’t even do the usual snort of disbelief most women would have done at his voicing how Aleece couldn’t resist him. By the end of his little emotional triad she kept her lips shut for a good lap or so around the track, letting his possible relief settle. Finally as the rounded the bin, keeping her eyes on the track in front of her she spoke up.

“This is why I don’t bother with relationships Haswari,” she said matter-of-fact like. “Is it worth it?” she asked seriously, slightly curious. “Would it be worth it to cripple this guy? Would it make her endeared to you or just send her further away?” She wasn’t expecting answers to her questions; she was simply giving him angles to think about that he may or may not have thought about already. “Is a girl that keeps a guy on the side worth your affection or attention in the first place?” This was the reason she was still a virgin, still hadn’t been kissed, and she planned to keep it that way until she was fully fledged in her career. She wasn’t a fan of the ‘emotions are weakness’ motto, she found good use of shame, anger, irritation, happiness, relaxation etcetera, she however did think that romantic entanglements were a weakness in an individual. They could be used against you, and once you let them in they could manipulate you, draw from your focus. “Why are you even bothering with women. All this trouble doesn’t seem worth the while to me.” She ended her own bout of thoughts on that, her pace never faltering, her voice never once condescending or judgmental.

Ari vented out his pains int he most simple and direct way he could, and it conveyed as much as he could want to other than the way he was planning on finding revenge against the guerrilla for his truly stupid choice of words. He entertained violent fantasies frequently, which surprised even himself. Usually he avoided these things, he planned out of necessity and not rage and anger, so it was all the more unsettling.

After venting he just kept pace with Kira instinctively, he matched her pace and was burning in his clothes. The soft burning and tingling in his legs had spread over his entire body as he pumped his arms and legs in time. With his heavy clothes he could feel sweat building dampening his forehead and back, enough that he felt a couple pounds heavier in the hot humid California weather.

Kira started in, very direct with her words. He appreciated that, while others would think she was being too forward or brusque. But with how forward she was it seemed to have brushed off on him, at least when he was in such a frustrated frame of mind.

Is it worth it? She asked curiously.

To which he responded. "Kira that's only something you' can decide after feeling someone brushing themselves between your thighs."

Would it be worth it to cripple this guy? Would it make her endeared to you or just send her further away?" This one hit closer to home, and he had to give it some thought.

"I don't know if it will drive her away, but it won't endear her to me. But, his words, mocking the Holocaust. The only thing that kept me from tearing out his throat was her." He explained, cold and serious.

Why are you even bothering with women. All this trouble doesn't seem worth the while to me. She ended her thoughts with that.

Ari thought about it and simply shook his head, his left hand raising to brush sweat off his brow. "Because I care about her," He said, not sure if he was convincing. He was worried about how things were going.

Kira was verging on having been running for nearly twenty minutes straight now, and she was curious if she could make it to thirty, it would be a record for her personally seeing as she wasn’t one for the running, she was more the one for the weights. His own blunt words didn’t faze her, she had heard many a guy say she should just get down with the bandwagon and have someone show her what she was supposedly missing on more than one occasion. Personally after watching all her classmates go through similar things Ari was she didn’t think she was missing something all that fabulous.

It was a fair shot though, when he said it was only something she could decide. That was the pure honest truth. When she finally glanced over at him she noticed his body was about as sweaty as her was, but unlike her he had the clothes to trap in the moister as hers just dried in the wind they were creating around themselves. She wasn’t about to ask if he wanted to stop though, she knew when she was angry she could just lift and lift and lift, she was sure that some people could just run and run and run, if he wanted to stop, he would say so. She would go until she couldn’t run anymore.

At his mention of the Holocaust she narrowed her eyes, and thought for a few long moments. Same when he mentioned that he cared about her. Again she took her time responding, organizing her own thoughts and trying to form the words that would help him sort through his, not form the words that would sate her own curiosity. She was after all just his sounding board at the moment. “At the risk of bodily injury, the Holocaust was such a long time ago. Is it really vital to invest so much emotion into something that is long past when there is a war raging today? Over words the boy probably didn’t understand. If you are going to tear out his throat do it because you care for Aleece, not because of the words he said.” She also understood that sometimes a person just needed to hit someone. She wasn’t trying to talk Ari down from a fight, simply give him perspectives.

“Do you love her?” she asked simply.

Ari probably was pushing his stamina, his body was recovering from the brutal non stop training. Not to mention certain other incidents that had his stamina running frustratingly low. But even as he pushed himself harder and harder to just keep running despite how heavy he was sweating from pushing himself.

Despite Kira's risking bodily injury she wasn't attacked, he had someone else he wanted to destroy. So instead he focused on that, redirecting his anger, and thought of her words. "Kira I suspect it's something you have to be a part of to understand, as my country and people are still hated. Being reminded of ones race being wiped from the earth is not something I take lightly."

Of course she wasn't completely wrong, he wanted to tear out his throat for other reasons too. But it all served the same goal, and one seemed a much more solid reason than the other, as he wasn't sure if it was his place to be angry quite yet. Which is why he couldn't outright answer her last question. Ari just drove himself into a sprint, heading straight across the tracks and twisted, rolling across the ground in two out of control crashes, ending with him splayed out on the ground.

Having been so frustrated and realizing he was pushing his body to the point that his muscles were going to be damaged he got off the track, and had been a bit too enthusiastic about it.
