~One thing I do wish you had gotten from your father was his determination. When he said he was going to do something, nothing could stop him from fullfilling that promise.~
Souji's mother had always told him stories about his father, or things about him every now and then, usually when she was out all night drinking and came home to reports of Souji fighting or something at school. Today though he thought on it. She was actually right for once, he had no determination, none at all. He really didnt care if he got through with what he said he would do.
He was walking the streets of the city just trying to think for a while by himself. He had no priorities, he really didnt care about anything. What was there that he should do to be able to have a meaning? Just trying to set his goals you could say. But he heard sounds like fighting, and figured watching a good brawl would help him out, but when he showed up, it wasnt what he expected.
For most of his life fights where either one on one, or multiple people would jump you, or you attack multiple people, it was never over more than territory or name sake. There was never any extreme consequences for losing fights. You just got up licked your wounds for a few days and went about your business. But this, it took his entire understanding on things, and threw them out the window.
Three older men where beating up a girl who walked into their turf, and they wheren't holding anything back. Once she was knocked to the ground they began to kick her. The hair stood up on the back of Souji's head, a feeling of heat spurred in his back. His eyes focused on the three older males, but before he could step in, this flash.... Just passed him, and drove one of the older males heads into the cement stairs near by. The flash was a taller male, he was kinda old looking, he had scars on his face, and his hair was covered by a hat. But he had on fighting gloves.
His hand was on the back of the guys head, when one noticed he went after him, and the fast male turned blocked and pushed a punch to the side like it was nothing, and punched the guy with so much force he could hear the ribs break. The man dropped to his knees clutching his chest where the ribs had broken, and the older fighter kneed him in the face. He would rush over to the girl and check on her, spotting Souji standing there in stunned silence he would call him over. Apon eye contact Souji had never felt so over whelmed. Those dark blue eyes, seered into his very memory.
But he obeyed and walked over.
"Take off your jacket wrap it around her chest, we have to get her warm and to a hospital."
The old fighter spoke quickly and helped Souji wrap his leather jacket around the girls torso. He lifted her up and began to carry her. Souji felt compelled to follow and did so. they ran almost the entire way to the hospital in no time, got her checked in and under observation in ICU for a few hours. Souji and the older fighter where allowed to stay with her and it gave them time to talk.
Souji was dissapointed in himself that he didnt jump in and help. That third guy got away thought, which was probably smart after seeing what happened to the other two. But he did get away, which meant he wouldnt be caught for beating this girl like that. He wanted to talk to that old fighter too, learn soem stuff, but the look he was getting was almost as bad as he felt.
"Geh, I guess I can't be too hard on you. You didnt jump in to help her, why?"
The guy asked with such a stern voice, but sympathetic at the same time.
"Its not like I didnt want to, you got to it first, and I.... Froze."
"Have you ever seen something like that before?"
Souji had to think on this comment, he'd seen people get jumped, but he had never seen someone meaninglessly beat a person like that. And fromt he way they where kicking her it didnt seem like they would stop anytime soon.
"No."
The man raised an eye brow. He leaned back in his chair and thought.
"Well the longer you go, the more of that you will see. Next time though, someone like me wont be around to help."
Souji's head lowered, he thought on what he had witnessed, this guy had so much speed and power, but he used it to help the girl instead of help those guys. Could someone really be that powerful and help people?
"Why?"
"Hm?"
"Why did you help her?"
The man took a second, leaned forward with a half smile, one Souji felt was slightly familier.
"Why would you have stepped in?"
Souji thought about it, he really wasnt sure why. Was it because it was a girl, because it was wrong? Because he could of stepped in? Because he had the choice?
"I dont know."
The old man seemed confused by this answer. So he smiled wide.
"Then its settled. I'll leave the girl in your care. Watch over her, and protect her. I have your word."
The old man just got up and walked away, pulling his coat tight he just took big strides.
"H-Hey, what the fuck, wait!"
But the guy was out the door down the hall and getting in the elivator.
"Sonova bitch."
Souji would just have to deal with it. But even so, what would stop him from not helping her? From not looking after some girl he has never met before? Nothing. So he stood up to leave the hospital room, when a sound caught his ear, and a soft tug at the back fo his shirt. He turned to see the girl's eyes where barely open, and her index finger and thumb where holding on. He stood there like that for a minute till her eyes closed again. His eyes would drift to the floor in thought.
