 Paradigm's History
« Oct 6, 2015 12:17:43 GMT -6 »

For the last 20 years, Paradigm Academy was not a name unknown to people. It has a rich history full of accomplishments, but also quite a few failures. It's hard to say which made it more famous, just like it was hard to remind the people that Paradigm Agents were just kids at the time.

That's how it started, anyway. Long ago, hundred of students went missing from schools in the Chula Vista collective. It was later found that such students had been experimented on to create the MAPP serum; a serum that when injected, unlocked powers within the person. It was only sold in the black market however, and that's where the problems started. Do you know what kind of people buy from the black market? Exactly. Now imagine those people with a power trip. The police could not be expected to take on someone who can sink into shadows or blast fire from their palms.

That's where we came in. I say we, but, I actually wasn't part of this yet. At any rate, to deal with super powered criminals, we needed super powered cops, so to speak. Unfortunately, once the good guys got their hands on the serum, we learned it was full of defects and problems. Too risky. So scientists went to work on that baby and they created a 'perfected' serum. The only drawback was that it only worked on kids. People who hadn't fully matured, to be more precise. So they put out a call for healthy and skilled youngsters to come serve their country. Once injected with the serum, they would be trained by the military to take on the criminal meta-humans threatening the peace.

As you can imagine, it wasn't without its bumps. They may have been receiving training, but they were still teenagers at best. Not every mission was completed ideally, but, the plan was working. Paradigm was doing what it was made to do and criminals were being taken down.

That was until Paradigm's fight against the Sons of Judas. Paradigm was faced with an opponent, Sebastian, with a more than troublesome power. The power to learn all powers he witnesses. Through their struggle to stop him, a governor was killed before Paradigm was able to stop Sebastian once in for all. The governor's death unfortunately would out-shine Paradigm's victory over Sebastian, and the Military would choose to shut the program down. The negative press was causing the people's hope to falter, and they felt it more prudent to have the military take over instead.

Paradigm wasn't ready to give up. They had saved this world so many times, the people would have to remember how much they needed them. That chance would not come for a while...

It was not until the world was changed, in fact. This part is known to very few people outside of Paradigm. Jeffy Sommers, a boy of just 8, had a unique and powerful power. The power to change reality. Due to his youth, amazing feats were not yet something he could do. Not without some help at least. With Alastair Pendragon pushing him to create a world where meta-humans were more common, where it didn't take a serum...the world's fate was decided. Absinthe Delorme supercharged the boy's power and he was able to change the entire world. 2% of the world would now be a meta-human.

That's right. For most of you, that's how you received your powers. That's how I had received mine. The chaos that they brought is still fresh in my mind. Normal people suddenly realizing they could do extraordinary things. Only...they didn't know how to control it yet. And with that resurgence of powers meant the rise of more people who would abuse them. The military began to use more and more machine based weapons to take care of it, meanwhile still attempting to capture the Paradigm Agents whose powers were now, mostly, all a natural part of them rather than just the effect of the serum.

This rise of machine power brought on the rise of Legion, the robot empire that-...well come on. You know exactly what I'm getting at. ROBOTS TRIED TO TAKE OVER. Robots. Always robots. If you haven't encountered a robot enemy yet, count yourself lucky. They are the WORST. Anyway, the military's reliance on machines that were now their own enemy meant that the only hope was Paradigm cleaning up the mess. And they did. Not easily, but they did. After that amazing victory, the military had no choice but to admit that Paradigm was still necessary.

Paradigm was allowed to continue but chose to control themselves. No longer would they be a military project. It came with the hardships of not being funded or armed by the military anymore, but with the people's support they managed to stay on their feet. The military would still be an ally, of course, and information would be shared between Paradigm and the military regularly. The military also held the only prison, named "The Vault", capable of holding meta-humans.

Paradigm also changed from solely training agents who wished to join, to becoming something close to an actual school. People who just wished to learn to use their powers were also accepted within the academy. There's even a class for little kids who might wanna be agents one day! The position as Director was also handed over to one of Paradigm's star agents and field leader, John Allcott.

From there Paradigm continued its work. From fighting a demon lord to time-traveling in order to stop an apocalypse....to more GOD DAMN ROBOTS. Even a tiny little LIFE orb removing your power from within you and causing the now strange issue of sentient powers running around trying to either form a bond with someone or live their own lives. Or the destruction of Colorado, which bless its perseverance, is looking SUPERB again. Paradigm was there and intervened.

Paradigm's fight isn't over though. We've been fighting the Chthonic Empire for a while now, a place sort of like Paradigm but self-serving and conquering rather than fighting to keep the peace. It all started when they took over France, then Italy, and then soon enough all of Europe and Turkey. Fortunately they are unable to push the line any further from there and are currently in a cold war. Conventional military tactics have all failed to put a stop to them as the Empire has use of impressive and advanced technology. One such thing is a giant mechanical dragon in each Country capable of vaporizing missiles.

So. To you, my curious reader. What do you say? Whether you woke up that day and received your power, or formed a contract with a sentient power...what is your path? Do you want to hone your power? Or maybe you need a challenge and want to become an agent; become a hero and all that. Well this is my invitation to you. Your official recommendation letter.

On behalf of Paradigm, you are invited to join the most dangerous but meaningful career of your life. If you're interested, please reply by sending in your information sheet.
