"The first one, we had been sent to deal with Hyperion. However, as we were fighting their agents, we were pulled into what felt like a different dimension, and it was filled with these... zombies. They weren't tough on their own, but there were hordes of them."
He can't help but smile at the memory. It was the first time he'd tried to get Abby to boost him without asking verbally, and she hadn't understood what he meant at all.
"We fought through the city, eventually reaching a building where a young child was surrounded by zombie babies. He was terrified, but I played hopscotch on their heads, so it was over pretty quick."
Enya listens closely, her grin only growing as the story goes on. She mistakes his smile for looking back fondly at zombie hordes since he makes no mention of the mishap with what was his future wife at the time!
"You splattered baby zombie heads in front of a terrified child?" Enya asks, laughing!
"The people around me, who I'd grown to trust and rely on, were our enemies. They were just as strong, but twisted, evil and terrible."
He can't help but grimace.
"I was captured and confused, but in the end, after believing they'd killed my girlfriend, we fought against them together and beat every single one of them."
Every. Single. One. No exceptions.
"It was one of the most difficult fights I'd ever been in, for more than just their capabilities. They were faces that I'd grown to care about."
"Well... I don't see why you can't. Some are students here, and one is considering becoming an agent. But I'm sure they wouldn't mind meeting some of the agents here."
"Maybe. It's not exactly a family business thing."
Jack laughs.
"When I retire, I'll pick who I think is most capable at the time. If it's my kid, then sure. Otherwise, they can try to earn it on their own afterwards."
"The demon was... something else. There were weapons that were recovered, ones that took over agents' minds the longer they held them. There were three that had been recovered by three agents, by Win, Kiyr, and Abby."
He can't help but frown at that last name.
"We fought them to take their weapons away, because they'd started murdering civilians to prepare the way for their demon. Even after the weapons had been taken away, the demon never... really left them, I guess. Because afterwards, he tried to be summoned into this world through Win again. Absinthe and I managed to seal him away."
There's only really one name she recognizes out of those people, but the story is confusing in the condensed way he tells her about it.
"What sort of weapons were they?" Enya asks. "And if the demon never left them, how did your wife get out of the mind control? And what happened to the Kiyr person? And Win? He's the one you sealed away?"
"Well, Win had a hammer that granted him incredible strength and toughness. Kiyr had a spear that made her move at amazing speed, and Absinthe had a shield that made her virtually invulnerable."
Even though he hadn't wanted to hurt her, he knew he couldn't have even when he tried.
"The longer they were away from the weapons, the less they were affected. Abby had help from a... friend of ours, who used magic, as well as one of our resident psychics in order to help bring herself back to herself. I don't know what Kiyr did to deal with it, but she had her weapon for the least amount of time, so it may have affected her less. But Win wasn't sealed away, only the demon."
