He felt like he was getting more irritable since coming here. And he didn't really understand what his malfunction was. It was easy to blame it on Arman, the guy was an ass. And CLyde was a troublemaker sure. But he seemed to be mostly harmless. Plus who wouldn't be frustrated being wailed on, and blown up. Really he was justified in how he felt. Or so he told himself.

But he also knew he didn't used to feel like this. It was gross, he felt gross. And he couldn't shut his brain up, he felt like he was just buzzing. Maybe it was the Rebecca thing. Maybe it was Arman, or just the stress of how much has happened in the last week. It's been a lot of adjustment.

And so Mike was attempting to just get some peace and quiet. Some time to collect and calm himself. The way he was approaching that today was a quiet nap in the courtyard. Well, not a nap so much as just laying there resting his eyes. But there was something about feeling the grass under you and a breeze that was just very relaxing.

Insults, pain, stuffy females, brooding males, and panic attacks had chased her to bed, but trying to sleep during the day with a broken bone was far from an easy task. She had tossed and turned before finally abandoning the attempt and grabbing the same faded, grey jacket she almost always wore, tossing it over her shoulders, and replacing her casted arm into its sling. It was mostly hidden under the jacket, so she felt a bit better about her fellow "agents," whatever that really meant, seeing her so beat up.

Sneaking out of her "pod" was easy. Her converse shoes barely made a noise against the floor and by the time she reached the door, she didn't care if anybody heard her. Piper hurried away, with no destination in mind. In actuality, she had nothing in mind. It wasn't as if she cared to try and figure anything out. She just needed to... go. Somewhere. Deep breath, she told herself, and wandered aimlessly.

The walk took her around the campus, where she could view the different ameneties that were offered, but it did little to relax the tension in her shoulders. Of course, she had little belief that that tension would ever go away. Her feet found grass and she decided to just wander across the courtyard, eyes to the sky as she searched for a sign... some sign... any sign.

When she glanced back down, grey eyes fell upon a boy, seemingly asleep. A brow cocked over one eye. Was this supposed to be her sign? Her head slowly cocked to one side in a flurry of beautiful green hair before she finally decided to wander over to him.

It was awkward for her to try and sit beside him without jostling her arm, and despite herself, she grunted. Still, she managed, and leaned back on her good arm, keeping her broken one against her chest. She wondered if she should say anything, but for the moment, she was content for the silence. If he was sleeping, after all, it would be rude to wake him.

He hadn't been sleeping and when the newest addition to this lonely patch of grass grunted he'd open his eyes and turn to look at her. His eyes fixing on the cast first before moving up to the hair. He raised an eyebrow, still unused to seeing such displays. Though she was not the most outlandish person he'd seen at the Academy, it was just a far cry from the small town he grew up in.

"Afternoon."

"Indeed it is," she said, more out of habit than anything. Her voice was thick with her Australian accent, something that made her stand out more than her green hair or the muddy color of her eyes in the Chicago based Academy. She didn't bother wincing, having not been in America long enough to realize that people often had reactions to any sort of strangeness.

"Didn't mean to interrupt you, mate," she continued, her voice quiet, as she turned her gaze out over the courtyard, searching for any sort of activity. The jacket had started to slip off her shoulders, but she didn't bother trying to pull it back up. Rarely did it ever fall off her, and if it did, she didn't exactly have a free hand to pull it back up.

"It's fine."

He said with a shrug. His own accent wasn't native to Chicago earlier, but rather further south with a bit more of a drawl to it.

"What happened to the arm?"

She gazed down at her casted arm with thinly veiled disgust, hatred rising up in her chest. It was obvious that she had yet to forgive that man for forcing her into a challenge she was obviously unprepared for. One robot, maybe, but three? Where in any of their information about her - and she was certain they had more than was adequate - did it say that she was a fighter? Her teeth gritted together before she managed to, once more, compose herself.

Piper turned her gaze down at the stranger still lying in the grass, the hatred fading from her eyes. It wasn't as if he were the focus of it. Why would she take it out on him? He had done nothing wrong. "Tried to hit a robot. It... didn't exactly work."

"Oh."

He said, pausing before holding up an arm.

"Wrong power to do that with?"

Wrong power? She kept her focus away from the boy, staring into the distance with an obvious sneer on her face. She hated to think about what she had done. It should have worked, she told herself. It should have somehow worked. "Yeah. I guess." She didn't bother elaborating, lost in thought as Matthew's last comment floated through her mind once more.

"I can punch them. Others do different things."

He shrugged as the glow fades away.

She watched the glow, curiosity replacing the hatred that she couldn't hide. What did that mean, exactly? She didn't know much about the different kinds of powers, and really knew nothing about the powers themselves. She knew about her victim, and she knew what He had told her. Aside from that, she knew nothing. She couldn't help herself: she leaned a bit closer to the younger boy.

"What exactly CAN you do?" she asked, tilting her head nearly to her shoulder. Her eyes were wide, brows furrowed, lips pursed in curiosity.

Obviously, the younger boy was trying to figure it out, and she really didn't want to push him. If he wanted to tell her about his victim, he would. She knew how difficult it must be to be so young - even though he didn't look much younger than she was, herself - and to be somewhere like this.

"You don't have to talk about it," she said, before lying back into the grass. The motion jostled her slightly, but she managed to keep her arm, for the most part, still.

He shrugged.

"So you have control over your soul?" She asked, trying not to smirk. It was hard to think of souls, really. There was so much that He had taught her about souls, so much that other people just didn't know. If this boy thought he had control over his soul - or maybe his victim's soul - then he had a lot to learn, and if He wasn't there to teach him, then it was up to her, wasn't it?

She was smiling, then, staring up at the sky. Maybe this was where He wanted her to be. Maybe this was why she had chosen to come here. He had a plan for her, she knew. Maybe this was the plan.

"You can say that. I can project it to protect myself or to harm others. Works pretty well on the robots."

He shrugged again, missing her smirk.

"Or assholes."

Without sitting up, Piper rolled her body more towards the younger kid with his strange powers. There was a smile upon her face and her eyes, usually a muddy color, had taken on a clearer, almost green color, as she gazed upon him.

"Show me?"

She was right handed and that arm was already out of commission. She knew that any punch she might try to land would be pathetic. She wasn't a fighter. However, if he was showing her a power, she could at least return the favor.

She placed her good hand on the ground and her body began to buzz again, excitedly. She could only hope the victim was in the good mood it seemed to be, and luckily, it agreed with her. She shifted onto her side, lift herself up as best she could, and would swing one leg as fast, and as hard, as she could manage.

The entirety of her motion would take only a second, a single breath, a heartbeat. She moved fast, though not nearly as fast as she had gone forward at the robot.

The blow would land against the glowing aura around Mike, but not make it to his skin as the shield absorbed the blow. His body moved with the force of it, but otherwise seemed to be unaffected. Certainly not even a mark to show she had tried to hit him.

"So that's the shield bit."

the first thing he ever learned to do. Before he could even talk.

She swept her legs back under herself, moving smoothly through the rest of the motion. The shield had felt like she hit him, but it was obvious that she hadn't. He hadn't taken any damage. She wondered how strong that shield was. Her kick was probably far too weak to really test anything, but still, she found it impressive in its own right.

"So that's the shield," she repeated thoughtfully. "Can you block bullets? Knives? Anything?"

Explosions? That was impressive. More than impressive, actually. Shock showed across her features for a moment as she leaned forward, balanced on the balls of her feet with her bad arm cradled between her thighs and stomach, and eyed him curiously.

It was impressive to her that he, or anybody, would be able to survive explosions. "Have you found the limits of your shield?"

"It's broken a few times, eventually. But I'm still learning."

So he has reached his limits before. But he has not found his upper limit yet. His potential was still unknown.

"You have a pretty cool one though. How fast can you go?"
