She gave a little bit of a shrug, trying to remain balanced. "It depends on if we're in sync or not," she said, thoughtfully. "I can push myself to some pretty high speed if its a short distance, but sustainably, I think it's somewhere around 65 miles an hour?"
She couldn't help but laugh at that, leaning back to rest her weight on her heels and tossing her head back. It was a rare sound from her, but her laughter was a tinkling noise, light like Christmas bells. She shook her head once she recovered and said, "No, not you and me." She was smiling and tilted her head to the side. "Me and my victim. My power."
"Yeah," she said, uncertain why he didn't understand. "You know.... My power. My speed. It's, you know... Alive, right?" She tilted her head and furrowed her brows. "Well, sort of. It was more alive, actually alive."
"I, um... Yeah..." It was Piper's turned to be confused, and it showed on her features. She leaned forward again, closer to the man, and tilted her head. "I mean... Of course I did? Why do you seem so... Surprised?"
"They... Don't?" A brow cocked. She reviewed everything He had told her, and that didn't sound right at all. She knew nothing of the metahumans, nothing aside from what he had told her. With no real access to the outside world most of her life, she had words, and only His words... Given, His words were the only ones that mattered. "I knew some could be born with them, but those of us who are too old... We kill for ours."
She just stared at him for a moment as if he had grown a second head. What he said made no sense. She wanted to understand, truly she did, but he just seemed crazy to her. Peacefully bond with a power? "I," she began, and then stopped, thinking of what He said, what He told her. For a long, silent moment, she just crouched there, eyes glazed over. Lies, she told herself. They had to be lies. "I... Need to go."
She stood, rather suddenly, her fingers wrapped around the chain she wore around her neck. It made her light headed, as most quick motions did, but she ignored that light headedness. "I have to go," she repeated, before turning and going to walk away, back towards her Pod, back towards somewhere she could peacefully pray.
He watched her go for a moment, unsure of what he said or did to cause it. But he had the feeling that he had said something wrong. His brows furrowed. It was a very strange encounter...
The further she made it from the young boy, the more the shock sore off. In the distance, he would see her shoulders tensing, her muscles tightening, and her footsteps becoming faster. It seemed anger was something she and her victim had in common. By the time she made it to her Pod, she slammed the door, and a scream from within could be heard, wordless.
