For a moment, Aaron's face is red like fresh blood on new snow. It was just on the cheek, but it was unexpected, and she's pretty, and he doesn't even know her name, and now he's supposed to fight her? What.
Well, okay, he can understand the spar at least. She wants to know his powers, they're not as simple as they sound at first. A lot of the tricks he knows are from sparring with Mom over, and over, and over, and some of them don't entirely work on someone with his exact power. But he's here to help her learn. Swallow your nerves and say something, Aaron.
"Some people call it shadow manipulation, but it's more complicated than that. I can control darkness itself - generate it, control it, whatever. You might want to start off with shadows though, it'll be easier to get the gist of things."
He looks to Matt! "Are there, you know, rules for this?"
Noelle pouts and tries to catch a glimpse of a shadow to test it out a bit. She'll wiggle her fingers to stretch a shadow and move it slightly before beginning.
Aaron doesn't like to hit girls, especially pretty ones, but how's she going to learn if he doesn't try? Just think about it like sparring Mat or the Legion bots.
...Okay, maybe not the bots, those creepy hunks of junk.
He decides to open this up by firing some shadow bolts from his hands at her! They would hurt if they hit but they'd let her get into the swing of things.
Didn't take her long to figure out that trick, did it? The bolts are blocked by the wall, which shoots towards him, but before it can get too close he reaches out with his power and takes control of it to fire it back at her!
Much harder and much stronger than when she fired it, but if it caught her she wouldn't get worse than bruises. He's holding it back quite a bit.
Aaron's feet are knocked from under him, but he keeps his cool, solidifying the shadow underneath him into a platform to land on and rolling backwards as the whip is broken, ending up on his feet. He gives her a thumbs up, because she's clearly learning pretty quickly!
And then part of her own shadow solidifes and shoots upwards to punch her, hard, in the gut. He feels bad about it at least!
That smile made him feel even worse! Even though this is to help her get better at using her abilities, and training is important, it feels like a dirty cheap shot to him.
The moment of guilt keeps him from counter-attacking, but he was expecting her to try the trick he just had, meaning he was ready to defend against it. He focusses his power into his own shadow, so that even though he can't see every punch coming - and some almost connect! - he can send them back into it before they touch him. He also spreads his shadow outwards in a ring around him, so attacks come from further away and there are fewer directions to hit from.
He wants to see how long she can keep up the barrage, in terms of concentration and stamina.
Aaron takes control of the punching shadows and forces them upwards to shield him from the raining bolts! That was a good move, he gives her a smile of approval even while concentrating on his defence.
While she's focussing on the combined attacks, though, he has more experience multitasking with his power, so he has part of her shadow wrap round her feet while another tendril creeps up, hooks into the back collar of her shirt and solidifies. Pulling outwards on her feet and straight down on her shirt, he aims to yank her sharply to the floor!
