Okay, now she was making some sense. If in a really metaphorical, philosophical way. He watched the water for a moment, then looked up at the moon, taking a deep breath. What counted as knowing yourself?
"I'm pretty sure I do. I know who I am and who I'm not, anyway."
He knew he wasn't a clone of his father like some thought. Calling him by Dad's name had gotten under his skin a little, and maybe she could see that. Maybe not. Hell if Aaron knew.
"So, uh," Aaron stammers a little, not intimidated but feeling a little on the back foot with this weird dialogue having turned into a staring contest. "You didn't answer my question, earlier. Your name?"
He meant it as a compliment, obviously. And resisted the thought of turning her own question back on her, if she knew herself. She definitely had an interesting way of looking at things.
She'd push her hands onto the pavement as she rolled back, lifting her feet out of the fountain, turning it to a handstand. Her dress falling down around her face until the handstand fell backwards allowing her to land back on her feet.
Had he? It was 3 AM, he wasn't sure. Pretty sure he hadn't though. Aaron watched the handstand, but as the dress started to fall blinked and looked away, respectfully, until she landed on her feet.
Aaron was, admittedly, a little unsure of the distinction. It got down to splitting hairs sometimes. But just because he was Aaron didn't mean he was just Aaron Silverman, right, and just because she was Fiona didn't mean she was... just some girl named Fiona, right? So there was that.
The moon shone down, not caring a little as he puzzled this out to himself.
The only verbal reply was a small sound from the back of her throat before she turned her back to him and looked up at the night sky once more. Her arm reaching upward and tracing the stars. Though none of the shapes she made were constellations. At least not ones Aaron's ever heard of.
For all she knows, he's very well-versed in astronomy! He faltered, though, and just watched her, concerned. Had he upset her? Said something wrong? This girl had been tough to read, so far. Obviously he'd completely missed what she was actually saying.
