Fred gently strokes the gun instead of making things weirder for Dan.
"To tell the truth, my means of defending myself is no different than any other normal person. In a fight, the best I can do is negotiate. But I did sign up as Intelligence. I'm more suited for investigations."
"I haven't been here for too long. At least a month now. I participated in a team training event and witnessed a metahuman attack in the streets of Chicago first hand though. Are you new? What's your ability?"
Daniel would shake his head. He would put a hand in his pocket.
"I've been here barely a week. I've had my...ass handed to me on a silver platter by the trainer three times. And I got to be party to killing someone I didn't even know. So.....to be honest, I hate it here. But...I can't exactly go home. All because of the little thing inside me."
He gave a little smile.
"I wish I had your power. It seems....very safe."

Wow, all things considered, Fred had it easy. REALLY easy. She gasped upon hearing someone getting killed.
"Not even a week..."
Indeed he is hiding something. But Fred wasn't sure if it's because he's being suspicious or it's personal. After all, she did make Rebecca feel uncomfortable regarding their powers, and she didn't want to upset another potential friend. She opts to being respectful. While tiptoeing up to the matter.
"From what you've told me, I can understand why you'd like my power. Me, I wish I could be more useful on the field. Though I see there's a lot of responsibility to bear with certain abilities over others..."
"The field is a horrible place. I wish I wasn't placed there. But...my mom is counting on me, and I guess they gave a good report on me when I got back because she...said she was proud. I don't know. If i could just sit at a computer and jack into someones network to help out, that would be my preferred designation."
He felt obligated...to everyone else. Maybe it was because of everything that happened, everything he did. He would shoulder his pack.
"I should go. It was.....nice meeting you Freddy."
It felt like he was cutting her short but....memories were surfacing, and he didn't want to take it out on her. On a new friend.
Fredegund looked sad to see Daniel go. She said something wrong, she knew it. She tried to be as respectful as she could, to be polite like she was raised, but oh, how she had to speak from a place of privilege. It limited her so, as she wanted so hard to help.
"No problem at all. And it was really tempting to, I know. It makes me wonder if he realizes that it's... Unconducive to behave the way he does. There's being professional, but it only gets one so far."
