"I'll certainly do everything in my power to help you." she says, grabbing two cups of tea before taking her own seat and offering him one of said cups.
He took it last time, she doesn't feel like she needed to ask.
He takes it, raising it to his mouth for a sip. He thinks about how to word what's on his mind letting out a nervous sigh and a small laugh under his breath.
"I guess I'm just questioning if I'm up for this kind of work. I don't feel very good about my contributions and after what happened at the hospital," he wasn't sure if she had heard. "I'm pretty shooken up."
"Oh, well there was a fire at the hospital recently. Like blazing. A bunch of agents were around so we decided to help out."
He takes another sip as he recalls the events for herm
"The fire itself wasn't too bad, but when we got to the top floor and found the source, things got a little more...'heated'." He couldn't help himself.
"No, actually. I mean I don't think there was feasibly anything I or anyone could've done to save them. It's just the look of them was overwhelming. Seeing death is more than I expected, I guess? Especially so much."
"It was really messed up, Doc. I've never seen anything like that, and being in a position where I can die at the same time? I can't get it out of my head."
"On the one hand, that level of empathy and fear is natural. And probably good for you." Absinthe says gently. "People are meant to feel that way, and in some ways, if you're still feeling it, you're more likely to focus on helping others. Or being careful so you don't get hurt."
She tries not to frown.
"On the other, with your power, I can understand that it's difficult to get past it. It can take a long time for normal memories, but one like yours..."
She wasn't immediately sure how to help with that.
"When there's a will there's a way, of course. I just want to know what your goal is. Do you want to continue doing this? If so, we'll figure something out. If you decide however that you really aren't cut out for this, then all I can offer is trying to figure out how to help you with what you saw."
"I do. I think I do, at least. I've already seen progress with my power by being here, and helping people had motivated me. I just want to do better. Be stronger, I guess." Both physically and mentally.
"This might sound lame since he's a bit younger than me, but I want to be more like that kid, Silas. Not in the asshole sense," if she met him, she'd know. "But more in the way he was able to keep cool and take charge when everything was going down."
He takes another sip.
"And I think I need to work on my combat abilities more. I feel virtually useless when it comes to fighting."
Murdoch gets the sense she knows who Silas is just by the concern on her face when he mentions he wants to be like him. The explanation seems to be something of a relief though.
"Those are two good things to try and work on." she nods. "Combat training is very important, and there are many who would be willing to teach you. Do you have any preferred learning methods?"
In some ways she's reluctant to suggest Mr. Amtrum.
"I've heard a few of your peers are experiences combatants. Otherwise there are senior agents who would be willing to help that I could also list for you. Mr. Amtrum is the trainer, so he's always a good choice. His methods can be extreme, just as a warning."
She figures finding a way to train was the easiest way to start.
