Ken awoke. Ah, interesting. He felt fine. He expected Matt to beat on him a little while he was out, but it seemed the teacher wasn't quite as mean spirited as he let on. Ken would look down at the IV in his arm, tsk, and reach over to pull it out.
He would proceed to try and get up, one of the nurses attempting to force him back to bed! He gently pushed them away, causing the nurse to stumble backward and slam into another bed.
"Gettoff me. I'm fine."
He wasn't pissed. He just had no reason to be there.
Evie walked in carrying a small bouquet of flowers and one of her favorite books to keep him happy and comfortable...
Just in time to see the nurse go stumbling backwards.
She gasped and rushed forward, shaking her head firmly and yelping, "Kenny! Stop!" She would try to get between him and anybody else, bracing herself for the possibility of getting hit.
Already, her chains wiggled beneath her skin, ready to come out and pin him down, if need be.
Ken turned to the voice, shock radiating up his spine at the name. Was his...mother...? Then he saw who it was and a mix of confusion and anger splayed over his face.
"W-what? Evie...? Don't. Don't ever call me that."
He would attempt to brush past her to get his clothes in the closet.
Shock showed across her features at the look he gave her and she almost wilted, almost backed away from him... but that wouldn't be what was best for him.
"Please," she said, stepping back into his path. Her eyes were wide and filled with concern, and she dropped the flowers onto the ground to hold both hands up.
He looked back at the bed. He could still....see what was left of his mom in one of those. It was one reason Ken loved his powers- he found himself in a bed like that so rarely....
"I just want to get out of here. I don't belong in this room."
Ken would stare down at her, then look over at the bed. He felt bile rise up in his throat, completely unaware of her touching him, but acknowledging that she was as good as begging him. He would compromise.
"I won't get back in the bed."
He would move over to the chair in the corner and sit, giving a little cough after.
She followed him over to the chair, letting him sit down. Smiling, she placed a hand on his shoulder, bending over at the waist to whisper to him, "Thank you."
She even kissed his temple, a butterfly soft kiss so fleeting, he might not recognize it was real.
He saw- and felt- the kiss, his rage boiling just below the surface now dissipating quickly with the contact. Interesting....this girl-
The nurse came over, clearly irritating. "I have enough shit without problems..." and went on like that blabbering. Ken was focused on Evie, giving a little smile at her words.
She smiled at the nurse, tilting her head to one side as she talked. She could tell that she was irritated, but it was really difficult to be irritated at someone like Evie.
Then, she turned her attention back to BK. "I did! I didn't know how long you would be in here, and I wanted to make sure you didn't get bored."
She showed him a rather worn, well loved hardcopy of The Secret Garden. "It's my favorite."
He reached out, taking the book. He had seen the movie plenty of times, but never read the book. He would gently run a hand over the surface and grin, looking up at her from under his brow.
"Do you want me to fall in love? Kuz this is how you make me fall in love."
Yeah, he was gonna keep that gag going. He was a huge book lover, and having someone give him their personal copy of a particular story felt like a very intimate thing. He would look over at the nurse, who took his arm and punctured his skin with one of the titanium needles built to pierce the skin of someone like him. He would look back at Evie.
"Thank you. Both for the book and....for coming. I didn't really expect anyone to care."
She smiled and rubbed his shoulder as he took the book, glad to see that he had calmed down and was letting the nurse do what she needed to do. Her chains settled back into her soul and her skin stopped crawling.
"Of course I came by," she said. "I don't really know what happened, but I heard you and Mr Amtrum were training or something and that you got hurt. I wanted to make sure you were okay!"
He grinned, his head tilting to the side as he waved her off. Yeah, his arrogance was showing again.
"I asked him to fight me like he meant it. Still took him a minute. And he didn't hurt me so much as choked me out by putting stone dust in my lungs. I think they just want to make sure there was no brain damage from the lack of oxygen."
The nurse grumbled something but he rolled his eyes and shook his head before looking back to Evie.
"Don't worry. I'm invincible. Nothing is gonna hurt me."
She chuckled softly and shook her head. "Sure," she said, but there was only kindness in her tone. She brushed her fingers over his shoulder before moving to grab the flowers she had dropped.
He didn't really seem like the flower kind of guy, but it was either that or a balloon.
"I figured you might want something to brighten up your room," she said, showing him the bouquet. "Besides. The smell of the infirmary is so chemical. These smell SO much better!"
Ken would watch her for a few moments after she spoke before looking to the nurse. She was looking at her watch while holding her wrist, causing Ken to sag back in his seat in irritation. He would look back over at Evie, glancing rather absent-mindedly at her rump before looking away.
'Be classy, man. Keep them eyes on the level.'
"Thanks for it. I'm not a big fan of hospitals regardless of the smell."
If Evie noticed that his eyes strayed, she didn't make any comment about it, letting the nurse do what needed to be done. She hadn't planned to stay long, but if he was trying to get back home, she felt certain they would want somebody to keep an eye in him.
Moving away from him, she went to gather his clothes. She wasn't planning on watching him change or anything, but the less he moved, the better. She would wait for the nurse's approval before handing him his clothes.
"I can wait for you outside," she said in her best no-nonsense tone.
When the nurse nodded with a sigh, he stood- as Evie was walking over- and stripped off his hospital gown. He was in briefs that kept him from flashing the pair as he tossed it off to the side, grabbing the sweat pants from Evie and offering a "thanks" as he pulled them on. He took the sweater as well, which still had some dust on it from fighting Mathew and just held onto it.
She looked away when he stripped. Boxers or not, that was still the most she had seen of a man. Warmth crept into her cheeks and she waited until he was dressed before she even bothered to glance back.
"Alright, sure. Are you hungry?" She smiled softly, already beginning to move. Unless he grabbed them, the flowers would stay in the room for the next person in need of cheering up.
