Valo is in the library looking for works of science or fantasy fiction to try and model tech after. Currently he's picked out Star Wars, but he's also searching to go for something a little more archaic simply because no one would expect it. He doesn't know a damn thing about most fantasy, though, so right now he's just staring at titles in confusion.
Evie had visited the library a few times since her arrival at Paradigm. She enjoyed the books they offered her, and since most of the agents were busy with school, she had plenty of free time.
She returned the books she had borrowed and immediately went into the fantasy section. She had let BK borrow her copy of The Secret Circle and wanted something familiar, comfortable to read.
"Looking for something?" She asked with a smile, coming up beside him to look over the titles he was staring at.
He's looking at the entire section, not focusing on any single title or series.
"Yeaaahhh. Just anything with really neat inventions unique to the worlds. Anything that can be built by a single person, anyway. Not really looking for floating cities."
"So no, like, Lord of the Rings, right?" She asked with a giggle. It didn't take long for her to glance through the titles, knowing most of them fairly well.
There was one spine of purple and yellow, the title scrawled in barely legible writing.
She pulled out the first book of the Ringworld series and showed it to him. "It's sometimes classified as science fiction, or was back when it was first written... 1970 or something. So a long time ago."
Her eyes continued to scan over the other books. "If I can find a good Piers Anthony book... That might also be what you're looking for..."
Books? Evie loved books. That was something she could definitely help with.
It was idle curiosity that drew Savaak to the library. She doesn't have any particular book in mind to seek out, but does take a trip down to the sci-fi and fantasy section!
"I feel like trebuchets and catapults have been done already, and wouldn't be that impressive to emulate."
He grins, then takes the book showed to him to look it over and skim through it.
"What kind of stuff do they use in this?" Admittedly, he hadn't read it.
He glances up at the mention of Piers Anthony, though doesn't say anything. He also acknowledges the other lady to enter the section and offers her a nod, but that's it for now.
"My favorite invention is the flycycle," she said, grinning as she looked for one of the other Ringworld books. The second, Engineers, seemed like it might be more up his alley. It went into the building of their inventions more in depth. "They also have some drug they use to boost the pleasure people feel, but I guess that's sort of irrelevant. They DO talk about armor and stu-- Here we are!"
She holds up the second book, victorious. Passing it over to him, she keeps looking, concentrated on the titles. She passes up some very promising looking titles, focused on what he said he was interested in.
Savaak gives the mystery guy a smile and nod as she passes. She still skimming the shelves for now, though she notices that a couple of books she had been considering are currently not on shelf when some of the inventions mentioned catch her attention. That explains why there are gaps on the shelf, but she's still looking.
He frowns, but takes the second book and begins flipping through pages. He's looking for key-words that indicate something about how the stuff is made, or at least whether or not full concepts are explained for things. Like this flycycle.
"What's this about a pleasure-boosting drug? Without the context there are very few places my mind actually travels."
The second book has an entire chapter specifically based around the construction of flycycles, and the main character attempting to better the design.
"It's really weird, but I think they explain it in the book. It helps stop the aging process, or at least it does physically. People use it to stay in shape and what not."
She shrugged. She couldn't remember all of the details from the book (because her player can't find the damn thing), but she remembered enough.
"Basically, it makes the pleasure center so intense that things like exhaustion become sort of null, but extended use is harmful to the brain. They used it to keep everyone happy, happy, happy," each happy said with a quiet golf clap, "so that nobody would rebel."
