Evie had escaped her Pod for another cigarette, thoughtfully wandering the campus grounds. She had put the butt of her cancer stick into the empty pack she carried with her - littering is bad! - and kept wandering, aimlessly.
The tall, thick tree had caught her attention. It looked almost regal, standing so strong. She took off one of her thin gloves and placed her bare skin against the trunk.
Her chains started to lightly move from her back, her pupils dilating and the rest of the world fading away from her. She took a deep breath and smiled, one of her chains beginning to wrap around the trunk and sink into the wood.
There was no soul, no memories or thoughts she could touch, but there was something... pure. Something beautiful. There was a life force. There was no need to grow... It existed, which was exactly what it was supposed to.
Without really realizing what she was doing, she leaned forward, resting her forehead against the rough bark, and smiled. Two chains were wrapped around the tree in a kind embrace, the other two seeming to wiggle behind her.
Mike asked with a cocked brow. A baseball in one hand and a bat made of dark glowing blue energy in another. The same energy that surrounded his whole body.
She jumped slightly, startled by the sound of a voice. Her chains stayed connected, the peace of the tree still washing over her.
She smiled at the stranger, giving a shake of her head. "I was actually testing that," she said. Pulling her hands away, she pulled her chains off of the tree and let them wrap around her.
"They are alive, but they dont... really have thoughts. Not that I can understand, anyways."
She nodded and stepped away from him, letting the chains move towards him. Her pupils were still dilated and her body looked paler, her skin cold to the touch.
"Yeah. I can't project my soul in other ways, but I have these chains. They come in handy."
Her fingers trailed along the links and they seemed to quiver delicately under her touch.
Once her chains retracted, her skin flushed again (even though she was still abnormally pale). Her eyes returned to normal, despite being wide and curious.
Could she put people in a coma, then? How interesting.
"I assume those people didn't have complete control of their souls, though, right? With both of us being soul manipulators... Maybe it won't be as bad?"
