Seth gets down to a knee to be more on Silas' level.
"You want her to turn out like you did?"
He slowly shakes his head.
"...no, I didn't think so."
He stands again, not letting up the gravity to turn to Freya.
"You may remain here, at Paradigm. However."
He holds up a finger.
"Consider this a probationary period. The moment I hear anything that displeases me about either your behavior or your safety, I will come fetch you myself. I expect you to keep in contact with me daily."
Freya's eyes light up the moment her father allows up. So much so that she almost doesn't care about the rest of the conditions. Check in? Sure. It'd be like having a cell phone but it's just in your head.
"Thank you!" she says smiling widely! But it falters as she remembers her brother.
'Apologize to mother...you know that's all you need to do.'
Mae shows no sign of any feelings towards the decision.
"In return, you will also have to act as a replacement for Tamara. This will involve keeping me updated on both Paradigm's happenings as well as those of the city around you."
"You, however, have a decision to make concerning how you will live your life from now on. There will be no second chances, so consider this visit your first and only warning. Do you understand me, Silas?"
"What exactly are you reprimanding me here for? What is it you expect of me, father?" It sounds more pleading and less challenging than he wished it did.
"Were you not listening to me, beforehand? Your disrespectful attitude towards myself and your mother, your hostile and entitled nature at this academy, your lack of accomplishments here, your childish attempts to compete with me which resulted in the death of one of my earliest acquaintances and an assault on your sister..."
A sigh escapes his lips. It was times like these that Seth wished he still smoked.
"I tire of repeating myself, Silas. If you cannot be bothered to even pay attention, then there is no point in this conversation continuing."
"How can you hold me accountable for doing as you do!" He shouts back!
"You acted the same when I was your age! And listen to your words even now. 'Your earliest acquaintance.' You used her affections for you for your benefit. How is that any different than what I did? What's the difference, Dad?"
"Do you need me to explain it to you, as if you were a child?"
Seth does not like that shouting tone one bit.
"I learned from those around me, and overcame every challenge that I could find. I defeated every opponent who could conceivably be a challenge. I did not drift among others aimlessly, as you have."
He glances towards Mae for a moment, as if contemplating what to say, before continuing.
"Tamara's devotion was something I actively cultivated, yes, and she did grow into someone I could rely on. Yet, you did not even have the decency to form your own bond with her, instead you piggybacked on mine to accomplish... what, exactly? Did she tell you information on meta's around the world? Did she find and protect you against other potential psychics, and teach you how to defend yourself?"
He shakes his head.
"No. You used her the same as any other... lesser man would, to satisfy your urges."
Silas' lips tighten, wanting to protest every sentence but he doesn't. Today was not the day he'd be able to find the loopholes in his father's logic. He was too smart. More importantly today, he was also absolutely right.
