Piper had been looking everywhere for him. It wasn't as if they were on the best of terms... Hell, they weren't even friends... But they were both Agents, and they were both working towards the same goal.
No matter how much she despised admitting he was right.
She had been about to breeze past the gym when she caught sight of him and stopped. Deep breaths, Piper. Moving back to the door, she let herself in, shoulders back and body stiff. He would recognize the well trained military posture.
Taner sets the weights of the bench press down and sits up when hearing his voice. He's noticeably surprised to see Piper, more so given the nature of her entrance. Slowly, he stands and makes his way toward her.
"What's up, Piper?"
His voice sounds rather pleasant. No hostility on this end.
Still, she didn't seem able to relax. It wasn't something she knew how to do, when talking about this subject.
"Director Gavyns has instructed me to prepare and brief the selected squad on a mission. You were mentioned, as well as Senior Agent Schaffer and Agent Silverman." She didn't know Enya's last name. "I'd like to discuss the mission with you, if possible, and have a plan of action prepared to be presented to Director Gavyns."
Completely different from the angry, angsty teen girl who had gotten angry with him in the Tutorial.
Her mask faltered for a moment. They might not get along, but this was something she struggled hiding from anyone. He would see her face twitch, her breath hitch. Softly, she whispered, "No."
Then, she was back to the militant position. She took a steadying breath and forced her mask back into place.
"You were right about me, Agent Cross," she said. "You were also wrong. I had the potential to betray Paradigm Academy, but the choice is mine. And I am making it."
A hardness touched her words. She was trying to hold herself together.
"Most likely not," she admitted, and her shoulders slumped slightly. "I've already informed Director Gavyns that I expect somebody from the team to take me down the moment I start acting strangely."
Piper shook her head and sighed. "I can lead you guys to him, but he has... something. I don't know. Mind control or something, but he has power over me. And if I can't fight it, I need to be knocked unconscious. I will be a liability."
"I don't know. There might be something in the records. My mother told me about a Jimothy Clavish that was immortal and passed away as an example power aren't infallible. I remember the message but not the details."
She didn't want to try to figure that one out. Not right then, with how distracted she was.
"I'm going to meet with the Senior Agent Jack assigned to the mission. See if we can get things figured out. I need to find Enya, too," whoever the fuck that was.
"Then we can all meet, get it figured out, and get done with it."
