"I don't know if I have the fortitude for that," she said with a little chuckle, letting him read the file while she continued cleaning.
She moved his coffee mug for a moment to gather a coffee stained piece of paper and looking it over.
If it was important, she'd find its place. Otherwise, she would throw it away. She was certain there were some pieces that didn't need to be looked at.
"I was planning on going to talk to him, Sir. Probably right after this."
She paused a moment, then turned to look at him. "I don't trust this man, but I also don't think he can be lying to us. I'd like to get him to agree to let me see into his head."
She was frowning then. It was always easier with somebody who was willing to let her in.
"Even if his resolve is strong enough to keep me out of his secrets, I should be able to tell when that is. And I might get the names and locations of other important Empire members."
Her frown deepened and she looked down, away from him.
"If he surrendered to us so willingly, then he's confident in being able to take whatever we try on him. I'd be careful of being too... free, with information, until we know what he wants."
She gave him a firm nod. "Of course, Sir," Evie said, her frown starting to fade.
"I'll report back to you with whatever I find. We can talk while I clean up a little more."
She'd already put a pretty heavy dent in his mountain. "Oh, also. These files need your signature, Sir. Completed cases that need to be archived once you sign." She grabbed the smaller stack of files, all full of reports on completed cases.
