Rebecca looks over when she sees Eric flagging her done, freezing for a second as she stares at the...arms.
Where was the rest of the body?
Suddenly more than glad to get out of there, she looks away and swallows back the bile on already on her tongue, latching onto Eric with a small nod and a faint whisper.
"One or two on their way. Not sure where to." Still looking away. "Make sure to shut it."
Becca nods at Eric and braces herself for whatever is going to be in there!
She also makes sure that there aren't any footsteps or other surprise sounds, because that's easier to focus on at the moment instead of the overwhelming dread gnawing on her spine.
This is worse than getting caught by the guards at the stairs.
"Just passing through," Becca adds as Eric waggles his fingers. How are they supposed to just walk past these kids, knowing what they know now?
It was easier to focus on Jamal since they knew him, to tell herself they'd come back for the others. The logical part of her brain knew that there was no way they could bring everyone with them and not lose someone on the way. The more people they had with them, the more likely they were to get caught. It was just the two of them against whoever or whatever else may be upstairs. What would be behind the numbered doors if they looked?
That was a lot harder to justify when they were face to face with other kids. They had faces now.
Becca ignores the weird look and shakes her head at the sight of a conked out Jamal. She'll fake a smile, but doesn't waste time adding remarks. One of the perks of not being a sunny social flower meant that wasn't out of character.
She'll make sure they're not bothered while they check on Jamal.
"Jamal, you need to wake up," she adds. At least he was reacting to them and not out cold. She doesn't really expect an answer, though. Instead, she looks at Eric, worried. It would be tougher to explain after the fact, but if he can't wake up, they may just have to take him as he is.
Never trust anything that tastes good to her when she's not even trying.
