Personality: Lucien is someone who lives his life filled with passion and determination, putting 100% of himself into everything he does or not bothering to do it at all. On principle, he doesn’t believe in holding anything back, and while he can do quieter, more subdued and introspective - such as when it’s a mission necessity that he not crash through the wall screaming at the top of his lungs - he prefers not to. At least, not where people can see him. He is very open with his emotions, positive and negative, and both feels and expresses everything with great intensity - a real man, he figures, isn’t afraid to show his feelings. Lucien loves to work hard, fight hard and play hard, and defaults to being an incredibly loud, friendly figure off the field; when he’s in a good mood, his laughter can be heard long before he’s seen. He also has a huge soft spot for children and animals, and if this were a gentler world, where he didn’t have to fight the Empire, he’s said he might have wanted to become a doctor - a paediatrician, surgeon or veterinarian, probably - or some kind of entertainer. Maybe when the war is over, he’ll go to medical school.

Off the field, he doesn’t seem to take life very seriously; he’s a bit of a joker, lives full of confidence that he can handle any challenge coming his way, and is an incorrigible flirt. He’ll hit on or try to get with pretty much any reasonably attractive lady who shows some interest, but he’s not much for committing to a relationship. He also cares deeply about French culture, and acts defiantly French, almost to the point of deliberate stereotype; France will never die, not while people still hold the Fatherland in their hearts. Lucien has a slightly idealised vision of his home country, which can make him come across as slightly naive when it comes to international politics - the Empire is evil, places that aren’t the Empire are good, or at least not evil. Except for like, North Korea and similar places. France before the Empire has been built up to him as having been essentially perfect, and the idea of France represents, to him, the idea of paradise lost to mankind. Part of him knows the stories he’s heard probably aren’t all true, but he wants them to be true, so badly they might as well be.

Partly due to cultural differences, partly due to his own nature, among those he’s positively disposed towards Lucien is a very tactile, affectionate person; expect lots of bear hugs, kisses on the cheek and general physical contact. He’ll stop if somebody really, really wants him to, but that is his default, and they’re still likely to get a hearty arm round the shoulder or pat on the back. He is a passionate, loyal friend and companion who considers those on his good side friends for life, and hopes to awaken the same passion, determination and ambition in those he meets. He is quick to call out what he considers cowardice or weakness, but is also full of encouraging words and attempts to light a fire under people he knows; life is too short for hesitation, for holding oneself back, for anybody not to live up to their full potential. He has a pretty optimistic outlook overall, convinced that with the strength of his own two hands he can make everything work out okay for everyone in the end - even the darkest night will end, and the sun will rise.

However, deep down he has a much darker side, and there’s some things that make it pretty easy to bring to the fore. Never mock France or the French people in his hearing, or make light of those who have died in the war against the Empire; he will hurt you. In most cases, when somebody’s offended him, he’ll give them a chance to step back and make things right, but that’s something that’ll make him just turn around and flatten you. Also, if you don’t feel like being alive any more, express sympathy for the Empire or hurt a child where he’s around to find out you did it. He’ll make it quick, and enjoy doing it. His darker nature comes out most of all in anything to do with the Empire; he has been brought up to hate them above all other things, to see them as the source of all wrong and evil in the world, and to never, ever be willing to accept peace with them. He sees Imperial personnel as inhuman, just vermin to be exterminated, and would love to see every single one of them dead, ideally by his doing; beneath the mask of a jovial bruiser, he is a ferocious warrior who enjoys the sight of blood on his hands. Non-Imperial opponents might get mercy if they ask loud enough, but for the Empire, no quarter. He hates and vows to defeat all who would use their powers to abuse and oppress the innocent and the helpless, and the Empire is prime among those.

He is aware, on some level, that he does terrible things to people, that his actions are arguably evil, but there’s time to regret and to redeem himself when his people are free. It’s hard to be nice when you’ve been raised to live for revenge, and besides, this is war. He knows he has issues - he has anger problems out the wazoo, his fixation on revenge just plain isn’t healthy, and one day his overindulgences in pretty much everything from food to drink to women to fighting will catch up with him - but he does try to be a good man, and to turn his wrath on those who deserve it, in the service of good.

Interests: Classical music, medicine, MMA, professional wrestling, French history and culture, cooking, drinking, eating, women, the pursuit of physical strength, rock music, heavy metal, classic literature, patriotism, REVENGE
Skills: Hand to hand combat, marksmanship, fluent in French and English, conversant in Italian, cooking, eating/drinking contests, singing, hurting people, scaring people, tactical thinking

Abilities/Powers: Density Manipulation - Lucien can control the density of his own body, increasing it or decreasing it. His preferred method is to make his body so dense that he essentially becomes a living tank, with strength and toughness far beyond any unpowered human, and impressive for metas. This comes at the cost of some manoeuvrability, due to the increase in weight, but he considers that a fair tradeoff in exchange for the boost in sheer physical prowess. Rather than always increasing the density of his whole body, he can also selectively increase or decrease the density of specific body parts, such as making his fists super-dense moments before they hit his opponent.

History: Lucien spent five happy, comfortable years in Honfleur, the son of a retired military officer who decided to settle down by the harbour and one of the local doctors. He would have had a very good life if things stayed that way, probably become some big city doctor or something. He doesn’t remember this life, and it honestly might as well not have existed, not after the Empire showed up.

Lucien’s memories of the flight from France are hazy, the stuff of his nightmares. Boats racing across the channel, screams, the rattle of gunfire and thunder of explosions, soldiers in dark armour, the cramped interior of a plane sometime after he got across to England. He does remember America, the arrival in Chicago. His mother settling in at a medical practise, Dad vanishing for long days to do hush hush work with “people who can fix this.” Ever since, despite all his family’s best efforts, there has been a different edge in their home life. Fear. Bitterness. Resentment. Not of him, but of fate, and those who drove them across the ocean.

His parents love him, they always have, but they loved France even more. As soon as he could understand instructions, he was learning to fight, and to hate the Empire, allowed to have as much of a childhood as they could give him and to develop his own interests but raised to become an instrument of vengeance. All things wrong with the world, he was taught to associate with the Empire, and above everything else he was taught to be strong. When his powers manifested, they were delighted, and he was promptly given off to the Academy - he was barely even asked, but that was fine. By then he knew he wanted to go, wanted to learn to fight for those oppressed. He’d learned to crave vengeance, and justice, like a man in the desert craves water to drink.

Paradigm trained him to get it. He’s a senior agent now, who’s gone on a wide variety of missions, and when he’s sent on anti-Imperial operations, things get… messy. At Paradigm, he has a bit of a mixed reputation - some respect that he gets the job done, or like being around him outside missions, while some others see him as a bloodthirsty thug with no sense of mercy. It’s hard to see him as the fun, cheerful guy he acts like off duty when you’ve watched him massacre the enemy with a huge grin on his face, or even rip people apart with his bare hands.
