Name: Jaine Miller
Nickname(s): Jane Tho, General Millz (Artist's Names)
Status: Student
Age: 20
Gender: Female
Nationality: British
Ethnicity: British
Height: 5'5"
Weight: 110 lb.
Religious Beliefs: Agnostic
Sexual Orientation: Straight

Appearance: Jaine is slender and rectangular, an unassuming woman whose looks don't stand out anymore than the average peer. Her face is somewhat gaunt and long, hollow cheeks and sunken eyes without the aid of makeup. She has naturally straight hair that she prides herself in, dirty blonde at the roots but more golden as it grows out. She keeps it long and it maintains a vague sheen and volume, even at her laziest her hair is well kept. Janie's fashion sense is contemporary, she likes logos and brands but doesn't try anything fancy otherwise, keeping to solid colors and simple silhouettes.

Personality: Janie is a girl of her generation, too much so in some cases. Somewhat pretentious cynicism and 'ironic' misanthropy colors her speech with sarcastic and black overtures, somewhere down the line she lost any sense of optimism her childhood may have endowed her with. She does have a natural intelligence about her, and a penchant for laymen philosophy that means she's at least somewhat capable of justifying her own outlooks. It doesn't make her any less annoying, however. She's naturally lazy and laid back, and doesn't purposely look for arguments, but she just can't resist the quips no matter what the consequences would probably be.

Continuing down the stereotypical 'hipster'ism line she has a strong artistic and aesthetic sense, one of the few things that really spurs her on in spite of her self. She expresses herself in art far more boldly than she dares in most other avenues of interaction with others. One Janie is relaxed, sits back and watches the world go by with only passive-aggressive complaints to her name; the other is passionate and motivated to almost frenzied levels. She can spend hours to herself on artistic projects, shut the world out. It makes her very good at being discipline, she's quite the hard worker when she finds a cause. Finding a cause that she legitimately feels for is the issue. Most things just get a subdued reaction, a few token thoughts and then she's back to her own small and cozy world. This general outlook is very self-assured and stubborn, while she's good at being critical she often doesn't find it convenient or fun when it's not to her narrow benefit.

Despite this generally caustic style of dealing with the world she's a good friend and partner in her own way. She'll gripe and moan but she is naturally inclined to being helpful with her actions, if not her words. Almost to pushover levels she can be relied on to drop whatever she's doing and help others out if asked kindly (or not even that much), though she might skimp on some or all of the effort depending on the exact circumstances. She's also fun when not trying to make the mood dour, open minded to the little things in life and willing to make a night out on the town a memorable one.
Interests: Music (all genres), dance (hip-hop and ballet), sketching and painting, fashion, internet culture and memes, feminism, philosophy, drinking (she's a mean mixer, whether the recipe is alcoholic or virgin).
Skills: She only really has mundane skills, the only noteworthy one being a decent hand at mechanical repair. She knows her way around most kinetic and power tools and can work with cars, most audio/video equipment, and other miscellaneous simple machines/utilities.
Abilities/Powers:

Universal Translation : Janie has ears that can understand anything. If it produces a sound she can theoretically understand what is happening no matter how impossibly that should be. If she can pick up on a whispered conversation it's clear as day to her. Languages all sound the same. Even inanimate things are translated into something she can understand, for example she can tune into what's happening on a computer if she can hear it's hum. The practical limitation is that she also has to understand, conceptually, what is occurring herself. For example, if she puts her ear to a body to hear the noises it's making she can hear something, but without medical training it won't be useful information.

History: Janie grew up with her family in a small house on the outskirts of London, a happy child with already burgeoning artistic pretensions as early as 3. In theory she should have been enrolled in good schools, her family shouldering reasonable debt to give her a shot at the sort of life she imagined she wanted to live. Her ambitions were frustrated before they could even begin however, by economic troubles that affected many around the world due to the chaos surrounding the meta-humans. Her parents lost stable jobs and had to settle into lower economic brackets, and Janie herself had to settle into public schools and art as a mere hobby. She needed a job, needed to work.

It was a fair life, the only one she knew at any rate, so she had no cause to complain. She showed diligence and aptitude, but also didn't quite have the desire to go into white collar life. Her friends and family were concerned and taken aback, but Janie intended to go into manual labor. She felt it more satisfying and less 'contrived' than a mediocre life that only promised dull work. Drained of all of her optimism for a bright future, she dropped out of high school to pursue apprenticeships, and by the time she was 16 she was already gainfully employed, making money, sneaking drinks on the side.

Her powers manifested when she was 17, simply due to a moment of clarity in the auto shop where she worked then. Hearing the thud and roar of the engine, she suddenly realized she had an inkling of what was wrong with things being brought in before even popping the hoods. The power was meaningless to her, save convenience. She had no thoughts of being a hero, disdained the idea as 'childish' in fact.

Her hand was only forced when she decided to move abroad to pursue an opportunity to make her still amateur pursuits of art more gainful. An American label stumbled onto music she uploaded, decided to sign her. She bid her family goodbye, but didn't realize it would be for the last time in person. Her family became willing citizens of the Chthonic Empire, defecting across the Channel for better opportunity in life. Janie made no big deal of it, not morally inclined one way or the other, save the fact that she now couldn't safely return home. So she built life anew, vowing to shut up and keep her head down and just enjoy life until she could go back to her family or otherwise.

'Otherwise' came in the form of her contacts in the music world, who increasingly became of the Paradigm ilk through chance. She fell into the crowd she would have done well to avoid, their influence and insistence subtly wore her down until she agreed to enroll to develop her powers. She has no intent of actually becoming an agent. But the world is never so simple, as she likes to proclaim herself so often.
