Nate is a relaxed, whisp of a man in most social interactions. Quick to entertain and distract, he is a master of talking and saying little. With a soft spot in his heart for children and single mothers, he's a very gentle fellow. Humor and smiles come easy to his features, never imposing or demanding, he does what he needs to in order to ensure that the sense of magic he's known since he was a child is passed on to others, even if only for a little while.

No one can say their abilities and powers didn't change them, and he's no exception. His ability to create illusions and the negative side effects of doing so have had a profound effect on his persona, they have made him both easier to approach, and harder to know.

"I'd rather live in awe of the world than in spite of it."

Skills:

-Security: Nothing is perfectly secure, from diary locks to vault doors, Nate given ample time can crack almost anything.

-Sleight of Hand: Seeing is believing, and Nate has mastered the art of misdirection, helped by his innate dexterity and the use of his powers, you never know if what you're seeing is real or magic.

-Socially Adaptable: Nothing hurts a magician more than a tough crowd; practice, and a bit of power gives him the ability to play the part in most performances. Whether the lackadaisical klutz, deadpan skeptic or anything in between, Nate can act in almost any role.

Powers/Abilities:

-Master of Illusions: With a bit of effort, he can create illusions of anything within his sight range. However, the larger the illusion the harder it is to create, the less detail can be involved. Creating clones of himself or others, objects, even fantastic creatures and things only found in one's imagination.

The illusions themselves act as perfect representations, down to their scent, provided he has had the experience of smelling them. They are however immaterial. Completely incapable of interacting with the world around them. Once touched by anyone other than him, the illusions shatter, leaving no trace that they ever existed. The illusions can even be picked up by cameras and other forms of technology.

Maintaining more than simple illusions for any length of time is trying, draining him both mentally and physically to the point of catatonic exhaustion and violent illness. The other consequence is rather dire, the more he uses his illusions, the harder it becomes for him to tell between the real world, and illusions themselves, whether they be his or someone else's.

History:

Nathaniel Crane grew up modestly in a little house in upstate New York. Raised by his grandparents he never really wanted for anything. On his fifth birthday, he was taken to a magic show at one of the local theater halls and he was immediately hooked. Magic, illusion, fantasy; they became his world. He was promised books and props for good grades, and taking care of the chores he'd been given.

A straight A. student, and kind child he was always practicing, acting at show and tell, recess, lunch, wherever he could. As the years went by he grew better, smarter, a brilliant con. It was all in good fun, no one got hurt, nothing was taken, and almost everyone always left with a smile and a renewed sense of wonder.

Then it happened, sixteen years old and suddenly there in his hand was the coin he'd been focused on. He could make things appear and disappear, his acts became more and more elaborate. His illusions became more and more grandeur until he hit his limit.

He'd created a full house sized Dragon on stage at the schools annual talent show and passed out on stage.

Waking up in the hospital, drugged up and in pain didn't end well. His grandparents forbade him from using the ability, calling it blasphemous and dangerous. Ever the obedient grandson, he did as they asked, finishing out high school without another public display.

He was miserable, unhappy with the way his ability was treated, he began working on locks and security systems, associating them with the disbelief and cynicism people around him seemed to lock themselves behind when the world seemed so accounted for and defined. Three years he spent away from his precious magic, away from the wonders of fantasy.

He'd just graduated high school when he began using his abilities again, far away from the judgement and concern of his grandparents.

He'd just finished a street side performance a few cities away from his home town when he was approached by a lady in a suit. A simple offer of a place where he could practice his illusions and Nate was ready to go.

A few words, a promise to his grandparents to keep in touch and he was on his way, to Paradigm Academy.
