Grinning to herself, Leif changed back into her fatigues after her shower, feeling refreshed and content with herself. The mission had faded to the back-burner of her mind, at least for a little while.
Wandering out, she hummed to herself, going to find Savaak. She found she was enjoying her time with the blonde, more and more.
She finds Savaak in the halls! The blonde is currently walking towards her at a cross-section, blue eyes clouded with her thoughts as she reflects on the mission. They had pulled through with a success and no casualties, which was good, but they could only keep up that pace for so long.
She blinks when she registers Leif's presence, offering the girl a small wave and a smile.
Leif grinned and waved in return, still humming the obscure tune until she made it right next to her. She reached out to try and loop her arm around her friend's.
"Come on, Sunshine, let's blow this joint. I need to either beat somebody or wander about. Mind being my companion for a bit?"
"That makes two of us." Another nod as they stroll arm in arm. It's like the war and the world don't exist, if only by sheer force of willpower for a few brief moments.
"Well, I'm used to guys. You know? Guys are easy. But this guy is... different. I think I actually like him, and that's new for me. This might sound awkward, but... he reminds me of my brother."
Her smile was soft and far more real than it usually was.
"I know what you mean," Savaak nods again, more sympathetic this time. Joys of being the only girl with a brother on each side of the age scale. Her expression softens and turns thoughtful as Leif admits to her thoughts.
"Well, that actually kind of makes sense. He reminds you of someone you cared about and trusted, right? Someone you liked being around." She gives a second's pause before continuing.
"Does the lucky guy have a name, or do I get to hunt him down the old fashioned way?"
She hesitated as she thought, her eyes lifting towards the ceiling as they walked. She looked like... well, like a girl with her first crush.
"He's DIFFERENT. He's awkward and confident, quiet and loud... collected and angry. And protective. Maybe he's like that with everybody, but it makes me feel... I don't know. Special. He makes me SMILE. ACTUALLY smile. Not, like, you know... Little Miss Sunshine smile, like you do."
Savaak lets her friend go on at her own pace, raising a brow when Leif compares a smile to one of ehr own but lets the comment slide for now. The gushing thing is kind of cute.
"You've got it hard." She shakes her head, lips quirking.
The idea evokes a delight little laugh in response. "Next time, I'll have to make sure I have my pearls." She gives a contented little hum before refocusing the conversation again!
Then, it was back to Mike. Her shoulders rose and fell in a shrug, but her expression softened again. She was usually pretty good at hiding herself, but it seemed she was wearing her heart on her sleeve.
"Yeah... I, ah... He asked me on a date for when we get back from this war thing, but I don't really... know. I don't think I've ever actually gone on a date-date. Not a, y'know... please-just-fuck-me-at-the-end-date."
"Promise me fancy embroidery and it's a deal." She leaves it alone at that, nodding and taking in teh sight of the softened smile, the way she hesitates when speaking of Mike. Like Leif not only has to pull her thoughts together about him, but make sure she's explaining them clearly. He's making her think.
"Really? PLease tell me you said yes." She had to have said yes. Savaak slows teh pace a little, but only just. THis is getting good.
"Well, there's a first time for everything, right? And it sounds like it's worth a shot, to give it a try. At least he's not some dick who will lord it over you if things go wrong."
"God, I hope not." She winced obviously. She wasn't entirely certain how to be a good "girlfriend" kind and she would hate to think she could break a guy because she wasn't entirely together.
"I said yes, though. Just... gotta make sure we both live through this, yeah?"
"It'll be okay. Just take it one day at a time." She tries to sound reassuring to the other girl. "And you can always field things my way if you have questions or anything.
"But yeah, let's get home first. Besides, I still owe you drinks on the roof."
