Venus arrived back at the main camp, just as silently as she always was. She was about to head back to the main Paradigm campus to check on all the little kiddies that had stayed behind, but she had enough time to get something to eat and some shut eye.
Running her fingers through her short black hair, plastered against her face, she sighed softly and went to grab herself something.
More food? Lucien didn't mind if he did! To his understanding, once the offensive on Turkey's land borders started, he would be sent right there as one of Paradigm's frontline shock troops, placed at the tip of the spear to tear right through the Imperial ranks! That meant he had to keep his strength up, stay sharp, make sure his belly was full and warm! On the battlefield, there would be many nights of bad food - well, worse food; there was no such thing as bad food to Lucien - and cold beds, enjoying himself a bit while he had the chance would keep his spirits up!
That line of thinking led him to the mess hall, where he'd filled a tray with a truly mighty amount of consumables! And then went for seconds, and thirds. He was heading up to the line for fourths when his bulk almost bowled over a smaller figure in black, in his peripheral vision, and he stepped to the side to not barge into them!
"Oh, excusez-moi!"
Sometimes, Lucien was too much the type to walk through things instead of around them! Great in the field, less so around fellow agents who could be squished! So he turned to the figure with a broad, slightly apologetic grin.
She heard him moving behind her, familiar and overly large. She waited until he was just about to run into her, and right as he shifted to one side, she danced to the other, creating a few feet of distance between them.
Venus looked up at the Frenchman with a cock of her brow, not bothering to say anything. She was certain that he would have something to say, and she had no interest in getting spoken over. After all, most times, people struggled to hear what she had to say unless she was reaming them out about something.
Lucien stared for a moment, though not the kind of stare he used to give her. More surprise, and then recognition. Then the grin got even bigger.
"VENUS! You're alive!"
The statement came as a joyful bellow as his arms flew open to offer her his embrace! Usually he would just go for it, but Venus liked warning, and Lucien liked not accidentally getting stabbed by her eleven billion or so knives. It had happened once and he'd learnt from that experience.
"It has been so long since I heard from you, I grew worried!"

She looked him up and down as he bellowed at her, a brow slowly rising over one eye. At least he asked... She had to be proud of him for learning. She had told him, after all. Usually, people didn't get accidentally stabbed.
"I'm always alive, Lucien," she countered with a little snicker. "And don't you know by now? Most people don't hear a damned thing when I'm around."
Lucien got left hanging! His arms stayed out for a few long seconds, then returned to his sides. Venus wasn't as much one for physical affection as he was, but he could offer at least.
"That they don't! But you know what I mean, you seemed to vanish off the face of the Earth!"
But then, her presence was far more... subtle, than Lucien's. When he arrived on the field, everyone around knew after a few minutes, tops. The ones that stayed were either very brave, or very stupid. The ones sticking around when Venus got sent on a job didn't get a chance to be either.
Lucien looked surprised! And then he put his hand where Venus had been a second ago! Slowly, of course, so that if she were still standing there she wouldn't get clocked in the face. Even without him actually using his power, that would hurt.
She moved slowly around to his side, then reached out and gently poked him in the ribs, once he had exposed them. She flashed back into sight and gave a shake of her head, an amused smile on her lips.
Lucien "recoiled" and clutched his side, play-acting as if one of her knives slipped into his insides. Then he started to laugh, looking even more amused than she did.
Some of the agents milling around them, meanwhile, seemed a bit alarmed by the display. Or maybe that was just how loud he was.
Lucien still had food to get, so he went off to get some!
A bit after she found a place to sit down, though, he would plop down nearby, tray stacked high with pretty much anything the cafeteria had that looked even remotely appetising. That was that for a short while, as he engaged in silent but considerably enthusiastic chowing down, but eventually the comfortable silence was broken.
"So," he offered, quieter than before but still cheery. "How's your war been?"
"It counts as stealth if nobody's left to set off the alarm, right?"
He wouldn't look as good in the spy bodysuit thing Venus liked to wear, though. That would traumatise people even worse than the various gruesome things he did to his enemies!
"Everyone's handling it their own way, has their own feelings on it. But there's definitely less fear than before; seeing the Empire flee Syria with their tails between their legs must have given everyone hope."
And hope was their strongest weapon!
"I think they're finally seeing what I've been telling everyone I meet, that the Empire can and will lose."
"But no, seriously. Morale seems pretty high all round, which I suppose is to be expected. And I've been doing my part of course, but I haven't been back from the front line for very long."
To his credit, he usually spared the "destroy ze Imperial scum" stuff for pep talks these days. Or when he was especially fired up - which, to be fair, he wasn't not, but he really did know when to tone it down a notch. He just usually chose not to, but Venus was someone he sometimes tried to be a little calmer around. Usually, Lucien just kind of did whatever, but he'd never quite moved past the subconscious desire for her to approve of whatever he happened to be doing.
