Venus does none of the above, since this game has already been played and her player is a lot less willing to play around.
She remains where she is. It isn't like he could have gotten far. And the fact that he did manage to leave without her knowing, considering her Intel specialty, is surprising.
Eventually, footsteps could be heard approaching, unevenly. If Venus looked to her right, Aaron was approaching, his balance off from the new legs they'd put on him, his steps careful as if he was still getting used to the new distribution of weight. He was obviously in pain, and just as obviously furious at himself with every step.
When he saw Venus, he blinked, looked embarrassed, then turned away as if hoping she hadn't noticed him yet.
"They shouldn't have to be bothered," she quipped back with a shrug.
"But no. They're a little busy fighting on the enemy frontier. They have to maintain the positions they actually worked for in order to make sure they are fit enough for said positions."
The obvious barb didn't make him any more inclined to actually turn around and face Venus. She wasn't saying anything he hadn't already told himself. His own shadow rose up to cover his legs, as if that would somehow prevent her from seeing them.
"Well, I appreciate you coming by, and them asking you to."
Aaron actually turned to look at Venus, with that. He didn't want to carry on and waste her time, time she was already wasting being around him at all, but it was a genuine question. How was "why are you self conscious" even a thing somebody could ask looking at his circumstances? Yes, everyone had problems, most of those problems were far worse than what he was dealing with, but that didn't mean he didn't feel. He wished it did; at best, he could put on a brave face and pretend it wasn't bothering him even though it was.
Venus rolled her eyes, placing her forehead in her hands.
"Then get off the field. You think you're worthless? Well then, I guess you are. So run home to mommy and daddy, little boy. We don't need agents like you on the field."
She was probably trying to make a point, but whatever it was exactly was difficult to see. Sure, he might have been walking around, but he was still in quite a bit of pain, physically of course but also emotionally. Besides, it was hard not to agree, so that made it even harder to look past the words and to whatever she might be getting at.
Run home to Mom and Dad, huh? They probably just saw him as a failure, an embarrassment, a waste of space.
"I don't want to."
And that was simple enough, wasn't it? Even though he didn't know why he didn't.
