Eric was just now getting off the plane from California, his gambit to stop the attack on the Academy a failure. He broke his word, and for nothing. He'd heard the reports, the whole place was leveled. He hadn't heard much in the way of casualties when it came to specifics. And his phone was fried when it got shocked, so he couldn't even call everyone to make sure they were okay.
The most he'd been able to do is secure a ride back and get assurance that someone would be there to pick him up. That was it. No list of injured and dead, all business and then a dead line. He knew he shouldn't take it personally, that there was obviously a lot of work to be done. But he couldn't ignore the black gnawing pit that had set in his chest since he woke up. The pain of uncertainty was worse than the pain from his broken arm, which was currently in a cast.
"People are kind of spread out. A lot of the junior agents went home, I don't blame them. It was too close of a call, not everyone is meant to be a special operative like me."
Til he was demoted.
"But i know where some the guys are holed up, cmon."
That didn't sound positive. But he didn't want to press it. He just wanted to try and turn his brain off for a little bit. But that was futile. His brain couldn't stop buzzing about what he was going to say to everyone. Wondering who went home. Which of his friends wouldn't be there anymore. If they would blame him. If they were hurt. How he could face them knowing he could have done more.
He wasn't really sure what to make of their location. Was it for secrecy? Or was Paradigm broke? And what about the other branches? Or the Government. They were at war, right? And they seemed willing to send them out to the front lines but now what? They were left to dry?
"Don't worry, were in a suite." He waves it off like Eric was worried about nothing!
He leads him upstairs to the hotel suite, which isn't nearly as spacious as it should be based on the number of people holed up in it, which may or may not be here now!
There's also a few maps, charts, and various equipment that may have been scavenged lying about.
"From my great understanding..." which isn't much, "the empire crippled us in a lot of ways, physically and financially. I don't know where Señor Jack is."
