« Prev 1 2 Next » Reply Share Thread Facebook Twitter Tumblr LinkedIn MySpace Email Go to Previous Thread Next Thread Please make a selection first Author Topic: When the going gets tough (Open) (Read 507 times) Polly Villalobos Student [send pm] Joined: February 2016 Posts: 191 When the going gets tough (Open) « Jan 19, 2017 0:07:45 GMT -6 » Quote Select Post Deselect Post Link to Post Member Give Gift Back to Top So things had taken a bit of a turn for the worse.  Paradigm was pretty much destroyed.  A large number of the Junior Agents that had been with Paradigm had decided it was best to pack it up and go home.  Rationalizing about how they lost, or it isn't their fight, or that they were not really needed.  Not Polly though, if anything she was feeling the fire burn in her chest even fiercer than before.  The enemy had them on the ropes.  They were disarmed and surrounded.  And the thrill of that challenge just kept bringing a smile to her face.  She loved a good challenge!   Though some quick talking and a little bit of flirting she'd convinced the cute manager to not throw out the commercial fridge that the Motel used to use to store things for brunch.  Rather for the time being he had it out back away from the main areas that customers frequented.  And that's where Polly was.   The sound of metal against metal rang as she practiced her foot work and form, her blade scratching and leaving large gashes in the old metal, much to her own satisfaction and amusement.  Back to Top   Averie Gilmen Student Bored now. Even living with a small hoard of siblings didn't save you from some of the horrors they risked in that small space. With nothing pressing on the agenda, she found she had the luxury to investigate the sound of metal clashing against metal. Kind of weird that it was coming from a back alley with that much noise, but it was more interesting than anything else she'd come across today. She slipped out towards the back, following the sound until she saw the commercial fridge and a girl with it, though the latter wasn't seen until she moved around it, herself. Was she...was she fighting a fridge with a sword? Averie raised a brow, unable to hold back a snort of a laugh. "You know there are other ways to take out your weight frustration, right?" She asked with a small tilt of her head, though her eyes remained focused on the fridge. Her feet and body moving fluidly as the blade came around once more to slash into the fridge, ripping open the metal resulting in a satisfied smile from Polly. She watched, thumbs hooked in the belt loops of her pants as teh brunette slashed through the metal with ease. Well, that told her one thing about the girl, anyway. She noted the damage done, but didn't look at the other girl or offer her name. "Well I don't think I need to go on a diet. So it's okay." She said flashing the girl a smile and giving her a thumbs up before backing away from the fridge slowly. Her blade in a guard position, as if the fridge was an enemy that could actually strike back. "Besides, it's durable enough for some light practice." The 'whatever you say' tone stayed in her voice as she shifted her weight to the other hip, tilting her head as she watched for a few moments more, the fridge losing more and more now that the steel had been sliced into. "Uh-huh." Light practice was certainly saying something. Her brow rose higher. "SO what do you bash when you defeat a block of steal? Other random garbage?" Since my normal sparring partner isn't around right now I'm using what I have available." She didn't seem to be disturbed by the tone in the other girls voice however, and instead would switch to advancing on the fridge. A loud clatter of metal rang through the alleyway as the door to the fridge fell, it's hinges sliced off while she gracefully sidestepped. "Beggars can't be choosers." Not. She was more interested in the other girl's movements, the way she held herself and her weapon like they were the same thing. She couldn't understand why the brunette decided swords were her thing, but whatever. She really couldn't just stand around and watch the fridge take a beating. Now that she saw how the girl was with the sword, it was like watching paint dry. Predictable. "So then you won't mind a different sparring partner partner today." She smirked, hands falling away from their casual position as she stepped up with the challenge. She turned to regard the girl, earning Polly's full attention for the first time as she looked the girl over. No weapons or anything, so that wasn't a good sign. Maybe she had a power though? Was she Paradigm? Maybe, though not everyone with a power was Paradigm. "You sure you are up to it?" She'd ask with a raised eyebrow, even as she shrugged the second sword off her back, offering the girl her choice of blades. Both appeared to be long swords and nearly identical. She seriously carried multiple swords around and used them? Averie bit back an amused laugh. While the girl was good, it was hard to believe she was still amusing that she fought with one at all and wasn't part of a Ren fair or something. "Wouldn't offer if I wasn't." Eh, why not. Averie hadn't used one before, but she'd humor the girl. Not like she couldn't ditch it if she wanted. And at least she was noticed instead of the mangled metal that used ot be a fridge. Girl had a bee line with her focus. She picked up the blade on the left, trying to get a feel for how it was to use it. Closest thing she'd used int eh past was a baseball bat. It would be interesting, to say the least, but the idea also brought a smirk to her face. No one said city life was boring. Weighted and balanced very differently, but it was a well made sword, and the edge on it was razor sharp. Polly had handed her a real and legitimate weapon, not some blunt training blade that would just leave a few bruises. "Okay, do you know how to use it or did you want me to show you a few basics first?" It wouldn't be sporting if Polly didn't try to make sure she was as ready as possible. Averie took a moment to try to adjust to the fact she was going to be using something as outdated, but she couldn't say she wouldn't enjoy the challenge, herself. The side of her mouth lifted into a smirk as she was offered a one-on-one trainign session. And responded by stepping forward and pulling the blade up, swinging at the other girl as she spoke. She didn't seem angry about the sneak attack though, it wasn't terribly uncommon for less than disciplined training partners to attempt to strike while she offered them help. She nodded helpfully as she slide back with grace, her own blade moving along with the rest of her body to slide against Averie's blade, working to the inside before she twisted to bring the blade up. Stepping in with the motion so that she was now very close to Averie. "Footwork is also really important! You can watch mine if you need." And with that she'd disengage again, stepping back in a fluid controlled manner that kept as little of her body exposed to Averie as possible, but also allowed her to lunge forward should she desire. Averie snorted and rolled her eyes at the offer, letting the brunette take a step back without immediately charging afterward. "Sorry, Sunshine. Not all people are into watching." She had a guard up as she drew back, and perhaps predictably, Averie charged her, testing to see if the girl was as ready as Averie believed her to be. If so, she'd found a good partner, after all. She tried to block the kick, but of the two, the other girl was more skilled. The blow landed, sending Averie back with a stagger and a grunt. Her eyes narrowed at the proposition of winning, however. Wasn't like there was any other option other than winning. She straightened and got back on her feet, watching the girl's movements and maybe, just maybe, listening. It was time to add powers to the mix; seeing Polly assault the helpless fridge may have been enough of a warning that she couldn't play as she was forever. She's quick enough to deflect the blade somewhat, but not complet, and decides to match power with power. She goes for catlike reflexes!
